i need replace trusty 2003-vintage 1.8 ghz dual proc power mac use exclusively music production. i'm on limited budget, first instinct hottest used mac pro (octocore, 8g ram) find on craigslist.
then, started thinking (danger!)...
why don't macbook pro! (which use in studio, playing live, doing animation projects, using @ work, etc...) so, here's nascent plan:
- get 2.8 ghz i7 13" 128 g ssd - $1599
- upgrade 8 or maybe 16 g ram (aftermarket save $) $45 - $120
- switch odd second ssd, put odd in enclosure - $300
voila.
don't want wait redesigned mpb, since:
- i don't know if there second drive hack there current mbp
- i use firewire audio interface , wary of thunderbolt adapter (adapters in general)
- from sound of it, there won't new mbp in price range
sound plan bitchin' quite machine on tiny side?
reason expect apple lower price of unit once new line announced, la ipads?
if you're worried price, buy refurbished. it's same laptop different box less money.
sure want dual-core laptop integrated gpu "animation projects?" stuff sounds 15" mbp better suited (quad-core cpu , dedicated graphics).
