No Space - Makes no sense

hi

have upgraded imac new mac mini.

thought being clever bought 8gb ram mac mini server edition 256g gb ssd , 750gb second hd built in. os pre installed ssd thought quick.

copying files , apps mac mini imac has caused ssd fill , stops machine running.

have macbook air 256gb of ram , has loads of space in cant find out using space.

how find out , best set , using space.

set have 2000 films on drobo. ok music on drobo , on itunes match.

have got 20000 pictures think on second hard drive (also backed on external hard drive)

me organised! mid level user. expert far friends concerned stupid!

are copying 256gb or 750gb? can open disk utility , show partitions on both drives?
