Some questions about security/viruses/torjans etc.

the recent news macs getting unwanted nastiness has got me thinking , have few questions:

1. what's stopping gaining access keychain , therefore every password?

2. when have (for example) flash update pop-up, how know that's , not downloading else?

3. understand, trojan requires me click allow install. why? why can't baddies work around this?

4. checking site "https" - why can't baddies have https websites too?

5. have trojan - why should care?

6. software update - how know in software update legitimate? computer not 'reconfigured' download files elsewhere?

Home Theater Network & Bonjour Support

hi guys,

new here , hoping got right thread one.

basically, have reasonable knowledge of mac , general stuff, have network issue has me stumped..

added denon 1912 avr home theater, , excited use "airplay" features. have airport express distributing wireless around house (with airtunes working fine), old siemens 6520 modem, , bunch of other devices (connected via tenda switch) network such as, ps3, wd media player etc, work perfectly.

problem can't pick denon on itunes or iphone consistently. have followed denon documentation perfectly, (internet radio works fine, , dvr has working ip address etc..). denon support guys think configuration fine..

denon tech guys think problem lies router , or switch. apparently need devices 'bonjour support' specifically. have looked pretty hard, can't find many products mention type of support. looking wrong thing? type of routers , switches support airplay (bonjour) connectivity through itunes etc..

guidance on issue great help!

iPhone 3GS Multiple Problems!

hey guys,
i'm new forum here, , didn't introduce myself yet(sorry) i'm 14 , have cheapo dad won't bring me apple store try , fix problem. last night, started experiencing white screen(of death?) @ approximately 3am, layed on iphone , extremely hot. tried turn on, hot took off charger, , went downstairs , put in fridge(not freezer.) when got home school, went check on , still not turn on. i've heard putting in dfu mode , shift+restore trick. problem won't show in itunes, doesn't connect or anything. i'm asking known forum cousin suggested. there can repair it? please let me know asap!

 

it cooked death. there isn't can done it. suggest plugging in charge , checking on signs of heat. if gets hot again without turning on, it's dead. if turns on or shows signs of life, may savable.

1.25Ghz MDD Kernel Panic?

hi,
have 2 dual 1.25 mdds , overclocked both 1.5ghz. running 1 machine fine, wasnt running other hadnt gotten ram yet. decided switch out 2gb ram 1 machine other in order test 2nd machine had yet use. booted in minute compared 30 seconds 1st mdd using. osx froze , restarted twice. again slow boot times , freezing. got safari open , went youtube video recieve kernel panic. when try boot bong/chime no video.... suggestions helpful. causing kernel panic?

havent added new thermal compund either cpu since overclocked them (i in future, right i'm testing machines) have hard time believing cpu kernel panic without being warm or running heavy programs.

sounds memory issue, reset pram, if doesnt help, reseat memory.

i have screen protector on ipad 3 right , hate it. rather not have it. treat ipad exceptionally well. need it? have smart protector. have carbon fiber backing. not protector.

 

i haven't used screen protector on of ios devices. i've had iphone since 07 , ipad since 2010 , have not had single scratch on of screens

since lion makes local "snapshots" when external time machine hard drive isn't plugged in, possible delete local old individual snapshots?

can disable snapshot feature in terminal, that's not want do. snapshots located , can delete em individually?

Best iPad browser for uploading files?

i need upload daily word file on website. on pc/mac selecting option opens file manager can select document , upload. same images. in safari whole upload box greyed out. there browser ipad allow me this? ideally have limited file manager/folder can store documents (even if have email them myself). ideally folder local dropbox style folder might enough.

 

there no "files" in ios. there no file system in ios. if want upload files tablet, buy android tablet.

that's normal. there no magnets hold smart cover of ipad. fold smart cover in half attaches , hold way.

there rigid plastic covers include magnet on hold flap against of ipad.

Internal DVD drive just ejects discs.

hi all

2010 27" imac's dvd drive accepts discs, sits 20-30 seconds ejects them. don't show @ in disk utility.

however, if boot camp windows 7, windows mount discs fine. left 1 mounted , rebooted os x (lion), , disc showed on desktop fine. eject , re-insert cause go ejecting disc.

have tried resetting pram , nvram, , have tried unplugging imac while in case... don't have odd running in background...

got ideas please?

have exact same issue dvd drive. dvds work, others not, although work in other players. seems have gotten worse on time or software updates.

i've read ton of postings people similar issues. if can help, grateful

hi! wanted white ipad 2 , thought "oh god, beautiful" , never had complains. after seeing white , black next eachother , looking @ backside, i'm more on black side. why? because ipad 2 in black has black buttons , black applelogo. question is: why didn't apple make white buttons , white logo on white version? wouldn't good?

Jailbroken Sprint 4s on iOS 5.0.1 battery

i know has been discussed thousands of times have not seen recent postings it. on jailbroken ios 5.0.1 4s on sprint network , having poor battery life (along many others).

yesterday charged phone 100% , unplugged around 11pm. morning @ 6am battery @ 25%. during time received 2 text messages , apple store update notification. had wi-fi , 3g off. on e network.

going 100% 25% in less 8 hours without usage unacceptable. yes, solution charge phone. however, not possible. read on different settings can battery life. below settings phone has.

have other suggestions extending battery life via changing settings or installing type of app?

SpringBoard crashing on double-click home

sometimes when double press home button springboard crash, quite unpredictably. problem lasts 15 minutes every couple of days. during timeframe every double click crash - in substrate safe mode. cannot, life of me, figure out! fact crashes in safe mode leads me believe extension doesn't use mobile substrate issue. it's erratic , infrequent disabling things one-by-one impractical.

i've attached relevant logs if understands these things... i've been trying figure out on own while have not been successful.

eve "thinking" man's game. requires patience , if have none, don't bother. why? because in eve can spend lot of time getting in game currency, getting achievements big ships, implants , lose in less 3 seconds... shot wt (war target). important rule of eve never fly can't afford lose, remember this.

game harsh in terms of pvp, , that's why of play it. if remember clone yourself, not lose skill points... if forget lose of time. each skill point requires time, not effort... time, time away computer, or time on computer... doesn't matter... don't forget clone or time lost. ship , implants can replace if part of alliance give spare/free ones otherwise you'll have purchase / craft own.

eve pvp oriented game, if plan pve or stay in empire space (high sec) aren't playing eve.

when comes trials of game... 15 days not enough judge mmo, neither 21 day program players of eve can email friends or people on forums *wink*. each eve subscriber can send out 1 60 day trial. read mmorpg.com eve jita forums opinions , reviews.

skills spells in other mmo's except learned through right clicking on book , waiting 30 seconds 15 days. there on 200 skills not describe can do, instead click link below. because new not mean have less of advantage has been playing past 8 years 100k skill points, have remember whatever plan do, example lets fly cruiser , pvp, require amount of skill points, points invested in crafting (industry) or social (mission) or trade (market) or corporate (to corp/alliance) not pvp cruiser skills either gone waste or not used in task. players lots of skills can more things, yes... doesn't mean can kill better can. in fact own corp or alliance or best trader in game in 3 months time. not worry players age in game, means nothing (especially when train docked in station while being offline months @ time, means no pvp experience whatsoever)

great intro!

got eve around revelations , played off , on thru trinity, due lot of 'life stuff' i've pretty haven't played since 2009. life has settled down , i'm getting new mbp in upcoming weeks, i'm dying dive eve.

never scratched surface of game. learned basic mechanics, did lot of mining, got handle on basics of economy, etc. didn't attempt corps or partying.

mac game writer introduced me eve said game made wow minesweep, , spot on.

anyway, starting this, , looking forward digging eve next month.

please me!!

have iphone; son has ipod touch. we're both linked same itunes/app. store account. phone considered main device. time deleted apps paid for. can them on phone through usual channels, not appear on ipod. follow usual channels using ipod them appear , won't. says they're installed, can't find them anywhere. don't know else try (other repurchasing, app store won't give me option because says they're installed).

as ios developer, think apple review process? prefer have no review , immediate submission of app market (like android), or find review useful?

 

i think it's overall thing, keeps worst of crap out of store.

on other hand don't there's lot of stuff can't do. , delay frustrating @ times - if discover nasty bug that's leading lots of bad reviews, , takes 30 seconds fix plus week of waiting , watching ratings drop!

think should have kind of trust system or something. devs have released 5 apps fast track check basics (which automated anyway).

im on exchange , noticed when read emails on desktop, still showing unread or new on iphone until unlock screen.
there way force updates can see new emails , not read ones on lock screen,

 

no, aren't e-mails themselves, notifications telling about e-mails.

exchange sync system can alter e-mails themselves, can't touch notifications. way clear unlock phone.

it's mailed physical letter every time phone call @ home. answer phone , not, you'll have letter every single phone call outside in mailbox. , there's no way phone empty box.

first check system preferences > appearance > appearance. show graphite? if so, change it. if doesn't apply, have tried restarting computer? that's first step in troubleshooting, , clears many problems.

Resolved Computer version of Portal 2 any different from console version?

due impatience ended buying ps3 version pre-owned after 2 stores i've been sold out on new copies. worse yet, have no code redeem free copy of computer version. linked accounts never knew needed code.

feel stupid. i'm contradicting myself. reason got ps3 version of portal 2 can play steam , psn friends plus save file space on macbook pro though run it. *yet wanted make sure free access computer version in case there's content won't come ps3. if didn't worry macbook pro , whatever limitations might have had, have bought computer version. asked mother if drive gamestop return pre-owned copy (i have 7 days return it), x-mas money back, , somewhere else new, unopened copy won't cooperate. fears more play games, more might break keyboard.

 

there no difference. ps3 version has steam integration, , free dlc.

said, if want computer version, why not take ps3 copy , buy on steam?

i scored mac pro 2008 broken dvd drive $115. has 2.8ghz quad xeon processor. wondering if upgrade 2x3.2ghz xeons, apple used ship top-of-the-line 8 core pro with. have no problem getting hands dirty, , have built many computers.

if i'm not mistaken, single processor 3,1 has 1 processor slot on mother board - no upgrade dual processors. still nice machine.
