USB thumb drive is slow

i have bto 2011 27" imac spec'd max. running lion.

have few usb 2.0 thumb drives use every , needed use recently. plugged 1 usb port on apple keyboard numeric keypad , noticed slow write to. after noticing this, plugged thumb drive directly 1 of usb ports in of imac , noticed slow. @ point, thought particular thumb drive , tried 1 of others , found both equally slow.

both of drives formatted on old mac years ago, ppc g4 mac precise. 1 drive formatted os x , other using windows/everything else format. don't want reformat thumb drives yet have issue them, files not being seen both imac , old mac.

assume fix issue backup data , format of thumb drives using imac or there else i'm missing?

 

remember usb thumb drive writes much slower reads. thumb drives aren't using fastest flash memory available, , usb slow. if older drives again hindered older flash technology. it's rare flash drive write more 10mb second. heck, might usb 1 flash drive if it's old. plug known usb 2 port , check in system profiler.
