iPhone 3GS won't turn on?

need help, yesterday 3gs overheated, , ever since won't turn on? i've tried holding home , power buttons ages , nothing. it's been on charge night, still nothing. doesn't bring no battery icon up, or charging icon, seems dead. help.

 

how did overheat?
