hi,

(yes, know, location services drain battery more, happens after i'm done using location).

have been using mapmyride app keep track of running , biking. app uses location services.

have found after workout, after have ended workout on app, fast battery drain throughout day. it's if location services still working, though app doesn't need them.

reboot phone , drain goes away.

unfortunate; don't mind using location services when i'm doing workout, why phone continue use location after i'm done it? common issue? (4s)

we've seen map ride , make sure close recent apps well. though aren't in active ride, still tracking location.

i've done is. past few months have been trying out different operating systems. tried install track 5 (gnome) along refit. has created couple of unwanted partitions trying delete won't let me because:
1. it's bootable
2. it's not mounted
can somebody, me?

do have install dvd came mac? if so, can boot (hold down option key after hear chime until disk option menu comes up) select dvd, , hit enter. brought installer. instead of installing, click utilities menu @ top , click disk utility. use want internal hd. select partition, resize another, delete another...

if don't have dvd, can try going utilities folder , opening disk utility there. may or may not let need since internal, though.

i powered first mac earlier morning. i've downloaded , installed (i think) firefox , thunderbird. followed on screen instructions , drug each app's icon application folder. drug each icon onto dock.

each of applications ran when clicked icon, felt safe in deleting .dmg files. drug each of .dmg files trash, when tried empty trash informed me both of these files in use.

missing?

did drag firefox , thunderbird mounted disk image onto dock? because way start ff/tb disk image when click dock icon. mounted disk image still in use.
or did not eject disk image, if have installed applications , dragged icons applications folder dock?

its been barely week , ipad 3 shipping dates have dropped 2-3 weeks 1-2 weeks on apple.com. @ local best buy , had wi-fi models , verizon models left. apple has tackled production problems in many ways time, tim cook, jedi master of production.

i have windows 7 partition 60 gb , need more room, have plenty of room on mac side (lion) wouldn't mind giving windows 7 side. i'm looking way this. have done reading, there doesn't seem universally accepted way this. current methode leaning toward using gparted part of ubuntu seems need do. know there risks involved in type of procedure , make up; gparted reliable way or there methode better?

my pb, 15" 1.67 hi res model, in disarray battery not charging, has had it's ups , downs on years. 1 thing i've noticed since got in late 2007 fact can hear 1 fan spinning in times of hotness. when first pulled thing apart repair in it, discovered has 2 fans.

1 on left (left in @ keyboard) spins , makes signature whirring sound, don't think i've ever heard 1 on right making noise @ all. i've stuck ear vent on of powerbook when it's been running hot and, while can hear airflow left hand fan can't right.

that's not right hand fan isn't running @ of course, whisper quiet , 1 on left 1 ever gets powered right make noise (the case seem bit hotter on left right). wonder though if i've got dud fan in it.

has else here has 1 of these pb's ever noticed same thing or can can hear both fans powered when system get's hot? if end having fix dc board rectify battery charging issues figure might fix fan if broken, might make system cooler in future , make components dc board , mac overall last me lot longer.

i think second fan comes on during extreme temperatures. have 2 17" powerbooks, both 2 fans. have heard second fan come once or twice on 1.67ghz. @ time mac on couch during summer , processor pegged @ 100% cpu hour or so. temps in excess of 130 degrees not normal pb operates around 100-118 (118 being first fan kick in).

1ghz mac i've heard second fan come on once. again, in extreme temp condition. mac operates between 130 140 degrees , first fan kicks on @ 140. high cpu loads though first fan has been able kick temp down 132 or so.

might getting istat menus. it's got fan option , can see rpms fans doing.

i know hdd manufacturers have own warranty when buy hdd 3rd party retailer don't know if hdd come purchased computer. email hitachi see if they'll warranty service you.

hey everyone, newb video stuff guy here. i'm in process of learning fcpx, , i'm learning it's going require huge amount of storage, , i'm looking tips on how keep files small possible, , ideas on how store footage. filmed 9gb of video, i've imported fcpx have events folder that's 18gb approx, , project folder that's around same size. how should be? feel have set incorrectly both folders large.

next question storage. have mac pro set 2 2tb drives, 128gb ssd, , older 250gb drive i've been using scratch ps cs5. suggestions on if needs changed @ all?

file sizes event , project files correct. real way reduce these sizes shoot @ lower bitrate or import proxy media. wouldn't suggest downgrading quality of video, have more enough storage start building library of content @ full res , quality. 1 space saving tip save project files need most, , if finish easy project don't need project file more, delete it. take space video files themselves.

i have been pondering getting mba instead.

have 2011 mbp 13 base. great machine. have no complaints, find don't work on music anymore, reason opted mbp on mba. take mbp me everyday work, wasnt before , thought of lighter machine enticing.

indulge me here, know mbp forum, guess wonder if else feels way. again, great machine , lion runs on it. had been thinking of jumping 8gb or ram , going ssd. figure these additions worth cash , looking tbd later year.

obviously, selling/trading mbp mba kill cash , push purchase of tbd. , thin, tapered design of mba's.

when buy mac, expect getting @ least 4 years out of it, , go , buy mba right now, working hard on saving money not want (i'll moving summer).

thoughts?

the mbp 8 gb ram , ssd give 4 years. air limited 4 gb of ram, might limit longevity.

but, if limited getting 13'' macbook, might still go air. there not in 13'' mbp justifies carrying around 1.5 pounds, screen resolution higher on air, , once factor in cost ssd, price difference small.

hi there,

i'm having issue w/ fcpx , wondering if me.

i'll have file split separate video , audio tracks in timeline audio track above or below video track, couple minutes later ill go back, , audio track sitting on top of video track, , if play part, screen black instead of correct video , audio should play.

know causing this? it's driving me crazy!

i know if can use 8 gb usb disk, reformatted mac os extended (journaled) install mac os x. have leopard, , love it, want see if it'll work. think i'll have is...

my base 13" mba 5 months old , i'm having 2 issues, 1 physical , 1 software:

1. wifi dropping out often, i've gone far installing lion on again fix it. works now.

2. there weird little spots developing on top of screen. time. try wiping them witha microfiber cloth , can of them off reappear again. don't smoke, drink or eat next laptop , don't have pet. apartment isn't dirty nor take dirty places park.

keep in acme sleeve (made out of scubasuit material)

take genius bar 4 weeks ago, explain nicely guy refuses replace it. unit faulty , want new 1 while under warranty.

best tactic replaced?

politely ask speak supervisor or manager. they're required on if request it, , explain case them.

how you?
so, after debate , indecision, pulled trigger on beautifull 27 inch imac. considering macbook air plus atd, cost of both, plus kaeyboard , magic mouse, made pull trigger on great deal imac.
i'm faced question of how set ip up... in regard storage...
imac version 1tb internal hdd.
first thing did partition drive in 200gb partition os , apps , 800gb partition data.
have firewire 800 1tb external hdd already.
so, based on this, best way setup machine , workflow?
thinking pulling trigger on 2 2.5 inch external fw800 1tb drives , following:

- internal drive: pictures , data. lightroom catalog.
- external 1tb 3.5 drive: mirror backup of internal.
- external 1tb 2.5 drive: storage of raw pictures (store raw , jpegs straight out of camera).
- external 1tb 2.5 drive: mirror offsite backup of raw pictures.

think?
better options?
if have imac, how have set up?

this case has been mentioned on several threads. thought deserved review. record, no affiliation company. customer.

company. evio appears new company , harmony ipad 2 case first product. other cases ipad , cases other devices apparently in pipeline. they're headquartered in southern california. no word on cases manufactured assume come asia.

price, ordering, delivery. harmony case can ordered evio website or amazon (perhaps other sites.) same price on both sites $39.99 plus $4+ shipping southern california addresses.

ordered case on thursday. delivered via usps following tuesday monday holiday. shipped , tracking. arrived no damage in padded sleeve. 5 stars.

quality. very, good. appears high quality leather. if not, it's imitation. interior micro-suede. stitching excellent. no loose threads or missed stitches. overall feel , first class. i'd compares favorably cases priced 3 times more. 1 color choice (black , burgundy). perfect color combo imo ymmv.

design. design standard folio small "kickstand" built interior side of front cover. 1 typing position available @ 20 degrees horizontal.

front cover activates sleep/wake function of ipad 2 , holds cover closed. not strong magnet, however. can imagine might not hold if tossed bag other stuff. bag dedicated sleeve, however, work well.

hinge leather , extends across 90% of length of ipad. should durable. ipad slides interior of case , secured leather flap on 1 side. fits well. ipad isn't going anywhere once it's in case. conversely, it's relatively simple remove ipad.

ports , openings available , appear have been designed case rather added afterthoughts.

bulk. front , covers minimally padded , add a little bulk entire package compared smartcover , plastic cover. not major issue, though. case fits in waterfield design travel express bag apple wireless keyboard in origami workstation case. (very tight fit works.)

on other hand, have belkin blade adjust stand ipad , case not fit slot ipad case folded over. again, not big problem since cover can draped on of stand may problematic stands hold ipad in place tightly.

protection. it's not "ruggedized" case (e.g. gumdrop, otterbox defender.) padding of front , of case should provide adequate protection in situations. on other hand, case not extend beyond corners of ipad. dropping ipad on corner not recommended.

overall value. close 5 out of 5 stars, i'd say. looks personal matter imo it's stunner. hopefully, won't sell it's commonplace. construction first class. functionality (with qualifications) excellent. bulk minimal considering protection provides. pocket welcome appears evio bringing out case feature. not yet available.

less $50, it's highly recommended.

i've had evio harmony case few days now. i'll echo points made jsh1120 in review. case stunner. it's not made of real leather, material looks great. seems incredible value $39.95 plus s&h. case covers of ipad bezel, half of it. might not important some, don't cases cover whole bezel. evio can live with.

downsides. landscape viewing done propping cover. there no locking mechanism or folding of cover, method not stable. use ipad way, doesn't bother me. typing position seems ok. i'll have see durability of pop-out typing stand (something haven't seen on case). reviewer felt typing position wasn't stable:

other criticism might have spine little loose. because of covers tends float bit when either folded or closed shut. when in closed position, there magnets keep cover closed, have hunt find them. not big deal, thought mention it.

i have mbp , ipod touch.....i want ipad 3. kids insist don't need ipad....(and guess they're right, not need it). but....

give me arguments appease them....or if think right, convince me!

i say, if want ipad 3, , have money... go it. it's nice has bigger screen ipod touch. can use ereader, watch movies on it, play games, check email, read newspapers, , websites.

so long story short, dropped macbook 3 feet onto carpet. put slight dent in lid, im not worried made me notice how lid when it's closed, extends more in back. normal?

anyone else experiencing issues imessage failing send text or picture messages? on , off issue me. before last few weeks, part imessage has been working pretty good. since xmas holidays, it's been laggy more i'd like. send picture message , take 10 minutes before tells me message failed send. before status sending bar hang @ edge. figured, pictures large files , having problems sending. there times plain text messages same. i've had people receive messages while sending status bar still on screen. thing can think of, because imessage goes through apple servers (like siri does), congested during times. still makes quite inconvenient. can confirm this, or know other reason? yes, i've contacted carrier, reset network, pulled sim card, etc... usual troubleshooting. because happens inconsistently, prefer not restore phone new , put in again. in experience, waste of time, , more inconvenient.

first of all, not huge data drainage others users experience iphone or due at&t. searched answers everywhere couldn't find any. oh , way, native language not english apologize me mistakes.

after using iphone few months, battery began drain rapidly (from 100% 0% in 8 hours without usage). happened week before ios 5.1 being released, , went normal when installed 5.1

now, approximately month later, of sudden, problem again! started moment synced iphone through wifi imac (used 'synchronize'-button in itunes). searching cause, noticed (thanks data-monitoring app carrier) iphone continuously connects cellular networks. every 1 5 minutes connects , consumes +/- 7 kbs of data (can 25kb tops when last connection little longer ago). ok found out why battery being drained, need solve problem.

found wifi sync drain data searching computer again. thought: "that's it!" since started moment synced again wifi. but... turning wifi sync off didn't solved it! what's more bizarre: iphone connected wifi-network, drains data using cellular network! why uses edge when can use wifi-network? , more importantly: doing anyway??

what i've tried:

turned apps off (bring menu , pressed red circle minus)

turning siri off

turning wifi sync off

set dns wifi network 8.8.8.8

a full restore of iphone, restored using backup

a full restore of iphone, new phone (no backup)

none of helped. full restore helped, problem returned not later.

some preferences i've set:

bluetooth off

"diagnostics & usage" "don't send"

email set retrieve 'manual' (not push, not fetch)

icloud on, "use cellular data" turned off

"use cellular data" app store turned off

home sharing turned off

wifi sync on (turning off didn't solve problem, see above)

siri on (turning off didn't solve problem, see above)

"location services" on "compass calibration" , apps

must software-related, since problem wasn't there (had 3 months before happened first time) , went away ios 5.1. returned after sync executed imac.

i dont know how work computers need help. bought gym membership , starting lose weight. wanted take photos of myself save computer year or 2 down line, can see big progress made. have overweight , have stretch marks , embarrassing me if husband or daughter saw progress photos. how make nobody can see them? please thx

best way create encrypted disk image, , put photos inside of that. remember not save password keychain, , unmount once done others cannot see inside it.

i "upgraded" 10.7. installed xcode 4.3.1 10.7. xcode has been moved applications folder , there no developer folder. want use developer utilities can't find them. seem there because when double click on .icns file in project's folder opens icon composer can't find icon composer in applications directories or using finder's search dialog. did hide developer utilities?

right click xcode in dock open developer tool > icon composer.

additional tools don't appear can downloaded separately apple developer website.

reading lot of threads, appears apple changed polarity of on/off magnet. cases beefy magnet still work while many others designed new ipad not. keep running list of works , not. please post results if have new ipad case works, new ipad case not work, or ipad 2 case both fits , smart on/off switch works , add them list.

edit:
understand ipad 2 not sensitive magnetic polarity , new ipad is, list dedicated cases work time or have corrected issue. many manufactures did not pay attention whether magnet north facing or south facing. cases work of time , of time won't. manufactures go top of list if 1) made statement or told customers has been fixed , bad units not in wild. 2) list of several users in row claiming worked 3) lots of reviews claiming worked.
