hi,
have macbook pro 2011 mc700 model. few days using on battery , connected samsung phone data cable usb port , when connect other end of cable phone, macbook crashed. took service centre , after few days technician told me macbook motherboard has short circuted , need replaced. macbook 3 month old , warranty has saved me cost of repair.
want know reason of short circuit. fault in model or kind of short circuit of motherboard on connecting data cable common phenomenon. in future think twice before connecting usb cable or pendrive usb port of macbook. static charge in winter season can cause. have used data cable before macbook , other laptops dont think there fault in data cable, not sure. got message few days before crash 'one of usb port drawing power , has been disabled'. can exact reason of shortcircuit of motherboard.

searching here , google didn't produce trend, i'd not common phenomenon afaik. if was, we'd see lot more posts problem here.
cause, knows, maybe manufacturing defect.
