Upgrading for video editing - RAM, SSD or both?

hi guys
want buy either more ram or ssd harddisk. 15" mbp, edit video fcp , music logic. nothing else. i'm fed waiting fcp projects render.
specs:
i7 2.0 ghz
4 gb ram
500 gb harddisk
radeon hd 6490m
bonus info: according ssd buying guide on forum, should have sata 6gb/s (since it's 2011 generation.)

what's annoying getting ssd have less space (than 500 gb). both music , video projects fill lot, , it'll pain backing constantly.

don't think need both ram , ssd, since i'm satisfied is. think? necessary both, or 1 of 2 sufficient? consideration, i'm europe, can't import (customs - expensive). this scan came solutions. seem sensible?
guys

when rendering video, check activity monitor "page outs" if increases it's bottlenecking rendering speeds due having read hdd , place data ram. gives idea of whether need more ram.

ssds allow data accessed , written lot faster, going have big impact on video rendering too.
