Screensaver trouble

the 'itunes-illustrations' item screensaver choice on imac 10.6.8 not working properly: on black screen displays warning "your itunes-bib has no numbers album illustrations", although itunes displays on selection illustrations of albums , songs.

nothing special happened, besides downloading music got gift card, using mackeeper ('malware' read somewhere?) incidentally, , installing apple's recent updates. mac's own help- function did not help.

idea how happened , - of course - do?

i highly recommend uninstall mackeeper. absolutely don't need , can cause problems on system.

malware function, don't need 3rd party antivirus app keep mac malware-free. macs not immune malware, no true viruses exist in wild can run on mac os x, , there never have been since released on 10 years ago. if practice safe computing, malware in wild can affect mac os x handful of trojans, cannot infect mac unless actively install them, , can avoided basic education, common sense , care in software install. also, mac os x snow leopard , lion have anti-malware protection built in, further reducing need 3rd party antivirus apps.
  1. make sure built-in mac firewall enabled in system preferences > security > firewall

  2. uncheck "open "safe" files after downloading" in safari > preferences > general

  3. uncheck "enable java" in safari > preferences > security. leave unchecked until visit trusted site requires java, re-enable visit site. (this not confused javascript, should leave enabled.)

  4. check dns settings reading this.

  5. be careful install software trusted, reputable sites. never install pirated software. if you're not sure app, ask in forum before installing.

  6. never let else have physical access install on mac.

  7. always keep mac , application software updated. use software update mac software. other software, it's safer updates developer's site or menu item "check updates", rather installing notification window pops while you're surfing web.
that's need keep mac free of virus, trojan, spyware, keylogger, or other malware. don't need 3rd party software keep mac secure.

mackeeper's other functions, don't need "cleaner" or "maintenance" apps keep mac running well, , of these apps can more harm good. remove files/folders or unused languages or architectures, nothing more free drive space, risk of deleting important in process.

these apps not make mac run faster or more efficiently, since having stuff stored on drive not impact performance, unless you're running out of drive space. of these apps delete caches, can hurt performance, rather it, since more system resources used , performance suffers while each cache being rebuilt.

many of these tasks should done selectively troubleshoot specific problems, not en masse routine maintenance.

mac os x job of taking care of itself, without need 3rd party software. among other things, has own maintenance scripts run silently in background on daily, weekly , monthly basis, without user intervention.
