i acquired 2009 white macbook 5,2. has 2.13 ghz intel core 2 duo processor, 4gb ram, 250gb hard drive. model non-multi touch trackpad , separate mouse button. spent little no money on , got super cheap on ebay, have 2007 mac mini main computer needed portable without spending huge wad of cash.
believe has been restored seller on ebay, , think might have been water damaged [luckily seller honest , told me did , didn't work, , fine it, never said happened]. here's why:
1. macbook won't boot without power cord plugged in, @ all.
2. macbook won't work without power cord , goes sleep , shuts down should power cord become unplugged.
3. seller told me not buy new battery, had tried new 1 , had made no difference, it's not problem battery itself.
4. 0 key doesn't work, volume down key doesn't work, , hyphen/underscore key doesn't work.
5. light wear , tear on casing [fine me!]
me, sounds it's logic board failure of kind, either through water damage perhaps? or else. know logic boards expensive part of macbooks replace, in case, won't repaired.
however, if somehow working again without power cord use on move, massive help.
have ideas of else problem? don't have apple store in city [uk] i'm thinking taking stormfront let them have on it... unfortunately charge £50 @ :/ why i'm asking first.
anyway, guesses problem , if might relatively cheap fix? ideally i'd love machine working *love* white macbooks on macbook pro design , although machine outdated still looks , need to: word processing, web browsing, itunes, iphoto , adium.

first place liquid damage below battery connector on logic board.....
