Upgrade 27" Imac SSD Mid Late 2009 without removing Optical

hey first post, title pretty says question is. possible add ssd late 09 imac 27 (i5 2.66) without removing optical drive? want have stock 1tb , ssd without removing optical - know possible on new 27 imac's, possible on late 09 27?

recommendation, if you're comfortable opening chassis, replace internal drive ssd, , move 1tb drive external chassis (usb or firewire)
