so took @ trip neighborhood apple retail store , fell in love apple's desktop beauty, imac. magic mouse in hand, commandeered machine myself , cruised through slick features love. now, first mac purchase little worried whether or not making right choice.
baseline imac model in question ($1199), i'm wondering if can handle things plan start doing:
photo editing (mainly aperture 3, ability light photoshop/lightroom down road)
video editing (maybe little imovie/screenflow screencasting , final cut pro x down road use)
everyday computing (web browsing, word documents)
maybe little web design sometime later on
plan on doing ram upgrade standard 4gb 12gb or 16gb (not through apple)
plan on splurging on external hd preserve onboard hd storage space
not creative professional or anything, want strictly hobby don't demand highest possible computing power things done fast possible
so, base-line imac idea me?
yes baseline handle talking about, memory upgrade.
might want take @ refurbs well. route went , saved $400 on each of 2 27" imacs purchased. savings can bump bare baseline.

$50 more current retail base, bumped hd, bumped cpu, , bumped video.
go latest 2011 models ensure have latest video options , thunderbolt future use.
also, recommend getting apple care, can 119 think student discount. 3 years of peace of mind nice have.
