iTunes problem with updated ipod

greetings!
i've update ipod(4g) ios 5.1 restoring itunes , wanna data backups on own macbook everytime connect ipod mac, itunes detect new device. gave me couple options: define new device or restore.
when choose define new device give me 54 error while im trying sync it.
what's problem , should do?
