Apple Increases Work Scheduling Commitments for Retail Store Employees

ifoapplestore reports apple adjusting scheduling practices retail store employees of april 15th, placing greater weekend demands on full-time workers , requiring greater weekly commitments part-time staff. moves come traffic @ apple stores continues rise , company seeks bolster staff presence during busiest times.

according report, while apple has been requiring many of full-time staff work 1 of 2 weekend days per week, company redefining friday weekend day , requiring specialists, creatives, , geniuses work 2 out of 3 weekend days per week.
for part-timers, apple requiring minimum weekly commitment of 24 hours, 16 hours. change potentially squeeze workers have multiple jobs or other commitments led them join apple store on part-time basis in first place.

report suggests apple trying better job of accommodating requests time off, hoping soften blow of increased commitments, company realize may lose of staff, particularly part-time workers, due changes.

Getting MKVs onto the new iPad in all their HD glory


i searched , found thread: http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=857239

contains useful information. led me subler , mkvtools, has been phased out , split 3 apps. 1 suited task @ hand mp4tools, i'm using.

new ipad should able handle 1080p files, considering screen resolution exceeds minimum resolution 1080p.

i'm looking best, easiest way 720p , 1080p mkvs onto ipad.

being mkv container, ideal solution rip out video , audio tracks of mkv , remux them m4v file. in other words, i'm not looking solution requires transcoding of video because takes forever.

mp4tools straightforward tool i've found far purpose (i've converted single file still synching ipad figure it'll work), still wonder others use.

found subler unintuitive use , had better luck mp4tools.

oh, btw, know air video. it's not option because i'm interested in watching video on ipad on go.
 

would know well.

Mountain Lion TimeMachine Backup with Lion?


have else tried roll mac os x lion os x mountain lion (both dp1 , dp2) , restoring data timemachine backup made mountain lion?

seems load fine, when try login refuse password seems timemachine mountain lion lion messing passwords? making me unable login after doing revert lion mountain lion.


no worries i've been able fresh install , copy files , setting things scratch, interesting see if else having issue.

haven't tried myself though.

why latest mac mini efi firmware update keep re-appearing in software updates in lion 10.7.3 on mac mini server 2011.

i've tried installing on , on again keeps appearing in updates list. downloaded manually @ apple.com , installed it. still keeps coming in list.

Opening Links From Messages


i having problem trying open link receive in messages. example youtube links. link in format http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=000000&feature=fvwrel. once click link takes me info page. info page allows me “visit” link or add contact. once here click visit nothing happens. if receive link in format http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0000000 can click link without “info” page popping u. however, still not directed website. nothing happens @ all. happens regular google links or webpage. inconvenience have copy , paste every link receive. how can fix this?

running 5.0.1 on 4s.

not sending pics since 5.1!!


hey guys, problem again!! when first got iphone 4, had go vodaphone, set work fine not send pics, got red exclamation mark, on contract payg, found settings needed changed , worked fine,.
got update 5, guess what? didnt work again.....back vodaphone shop, put new settings in , off whent again.
5.1.....hey got it not send pics again!!! why need keep going , them keep entering things in settings work again.

anyone find new ipad cases available in stores yet? know best buy holding them till friday, walmart, target, selling them early?

iPad 2 not charging through USB


i activated refurb ipad 2 yesterday. when connect itunes via usb however, says 'not charging', though it's connected usb 2-hub own power supply.
normal ? mean can connect directly usb-port on mac ?
 

yes it's normal.

had asus app runs in taskbar turned on usb charging on windows pc (even though didn't have asus board).

i'll see if can find download link you.

Rember Error

new here , got mbp, late 2011. upgraded ram 2gb 8gb (2x4gb). ran rember when first got them, 4 months ago or so, , passed 255 tests. retested them , wont pass single test.

wondering if memory went bad, still use, have caused harm computer within timeframe?

q: how can sure won't give away ipad preordered else waiting in normal line?
a: apple place preordered ipads in separate locked cage , mark them preorders may not sold general public walking in , buying ipads. preordered ipad guaranteed available when arrive @ store pick up.

q: upon arrival apple store, do? there line preorders?
a: no, there not line preorders. when arrive @ apple store find available apple specialist on floor , tell them preordered new ipad store pickup. able retrieve preordered ipad you, , on way.

q: need bring me apple store?
a: sure bring valid photo id of sort prove it's you, , credit card used payment. also, sure bring printout of order, or @ least have order number , apple id handy.

4G error in 5.1 ?

using iphone 4s when noticed header bar said 4g instead of 3g. switched wifi shortly after. snapped screen capture can't post images here. though interesting , wondered if else had noticed happen on phone or might mean.

iPad "3" vs iPad 2 with 3G


ok live in chicago, have had models of iphone at&t. trying convince myself whether 16gb lte or refurbished ipad2 16gb 3g , save $150.

debating 3g/lte option ipad in general have never had internet results tethering/cellular on train rides in , out of city. pay mobile hotspot phone when in crunch never comes through in city. figure when use internet breaking commute.

chicago people have success 3g/lte coverage at&t in city?
 

i'd looking more @ display differences 3g vs lte differences imho.

processor on new ipad


what new processor mean in terms of performance of new ipad? told myself upgrading ipad 1 (which seems increasingly sluggish these days) if new model going quicker , more powerful. can't tell announcement how difference new processor make---everything seems focused on graphics side of things. ideas?
 

it's same ipad 2 far cpu performance. ram unknown @ point, bumped 1gb because high resolution resources take more memory.

ipad 2 faster ipad 1 though. don't know sort of additional performance want other fancy graphics effects.

Does the non-ability to use more than one window drive anyone else nuts?

Windows 8 Brightness Issue


i installed windows 8 along boot camp drivers on imac. i'm having problem display brightness staying @ either 0% or 10%. if change using in method, either keyboard or slider charm, go 0% or 10% within 2 seconds of changing it.

else experiencing issue? didn't have issue developer preview don't know why consumer preview. can't find settings auto-dimming.
 

hello, having same issue on new 13" air. turn , go down 10% 0%.

Question about RAM


i have had new macbook pro 2 weeks now. exploring , found "about mac" section. when viewing ram (i have 4 gb) found out both 2 gb slots in use. how in world possible? have downloaded office , applications skype , spotify. don't understand how of ram in use. planning on 1 day in future putting windows on laptop can run programs windows need 1 gb of ram that. also, heard less ram have slower computer is. can me figure out?
 

both physical slots have stick of ram in them. thus, in use. not mean 4gb of ram being used system.

backing itunes libiary though itunes dose not seem reliable me won't backup "imported music" there backup music including once ripped personal collection?

Compatibility for next updates after Mountain Lion


well looking @ macs compatible mountain lion saw 2007 macbook left out. knowing have late 2008 aluminum macbook (2.4ghz). i'm wondering if next years update 1 leaves out computer.

there's no indication if update after mountain lion next year or year after.

, need upgrade next version of os x anyway? system doesn't stop working day new os version comes along doesn't support it.

i'm not sure you're asking convinced of. however, system gets older, time start thinking of getting upgrade. never know when battery die. when backlight screen can die, etc. these issues worth price of fixing, it's better new system.

i installing new software windows 7 install in parallels, , screen froze. not else, did hard restart, holding down power button til shutoff. when rebooted never go lion(i had 10.7.2). pulled main drive machine , connected laptop(macbook air) , drive fine , able boot drive. have time machine backup of drives in mac pro(of have 4) 3 main drives , 1 time machine. long story short, formatted main drive, , attempted reinstall lion on it, mac pro show efi boot when hold control when booting. put in old snow leopard dvd , show under boot menu never begin install. last resort, formatted 320 gig external 2.5" drive , installed lion, , did restore time machine external, , re connected via usb mac pro, , got boot menu, selected new drive time machine restore on it, never boot, sat @ grey screen spinning circle(not beach ball) under apple logo, went away, , never booted. can connect same drive macbook air , boot external no problem. ideas? logic board? have had machine since 2009 , have never had trouble. don't have original install discs, purchased used.

please help, point of taking apple have fix don't want spend $2000 on new one.

Where have my iTunes U video downloads gone to? Never appeared.


hello all. downloaded few itunes u videos store (specifically khan academy biology series), , downloads seemed go well, taking correct amount of time. when went check them on computer, seen. not in itunes u section, not in downloads, not in videos, music, anywhere. feel bit silly because went somewhere!

can them via wireless on phone right i'd rather have them on computer review , transfer them phone required.

Mid 2010 Macbook Pro 13"


hi. got errors laptop.
got question mark screen , not. fixed.

current problem fan seems running anywhere 4000 6000rpm.
i've heard normal rpm should run 2000.

knowing that, if fails or overheats, boom. laptop gone.
warranty already.

wondering best way through issue?

iPhone Recovery/DFU mode problem!


i have jailbroken iphone 4, , today randomly turned off (i know fact battery not low). tried using redsn0w boot, didn't recognize iphone. iphone stuck on apple logo. tried putting phone recovery mode itunes, when hold down sleep/home buttons, apple logo disappears, reappears couple seconds later. pretty much, i'm stuck on apple logo , not able phone dfu mode or recovery mode.
help!
 

been there... done that.

use ifaith.... has built in dfu pwner. while u save shsh blobs.

This is why I hate iTunes


i guess @ point brother must have phone in itunes account. notice have bunch of music in itunes library don't recognize , i'm assuming must brother's phone.

plugged phone laptop tonight charge , though have sworn turned off incredibly annoying auto-itunes-opening-when-plugging-in-your-phone option, have stuff in iphone music:

itunes has befuddled me crap this. it's 1 thing or - taking crap off phone, trying stick every app i've ever downloaded in life onto phone, etc. guess i've fundamentally misunderstood basic way itunes operates because type of stuff has plagued me 5 years now. being intuitive, itunes sure **** iphone experience.

thought done itunes permanently, too.

anyway, have music listed on m phone it's grayed out , can't click on it/play it/anything. either want wipe off "blank" music or "activate" somehow. can take or leave it, having phone show music have grayed out annoying. tips?
 

itunes not sync on music onto iphone. library id's different , trying sync require media erased iphone first. unless manually added music onto iphone, itunes did nothing wrong.

editing files on Server 2008 messes up permissions


i've run problem that's bit baffling me.

we've got several macs in our office running 10.7.2. of these macs connect windows 2008 server on smb.

we're not having problems connecting shares , getting files, running problems when 1 of these macs saves changes file, file gets random account added it's acl isn't part of our active directory. it's showing "account unknown(s-1-5-88-3-448)" , gets added regardless of edits file or computer editing done on.

account set deny , has no privileges whatsoever on file , causing other users no longer able edit file.

if go in on windows machine , remove offending account acl on file, begins working again.

has started happening since upgraded 10.7.

have ideas?

Using iTunes w/ JB?


quick question. jailbreak has gone flawlessly. no issues. haven't yet connected 4s itunes yet sync , backup. if backup w/ jailbroken iphone, , later upgrade 5.1 , lose jb. can still restore backup though when jailbroken? nothing changes or happens w/ itunes , syncing i'm guessing?
 

you see empty spaces used cydia , other jailbreak apps, can rearranged, thats it.

you can not tether 2gb plan, need 4gb data pro plan ($45) able tether, plan going away tomorrow , starting sunday replaced 5gb data pro plan ($50) if you're on at&t.

how many apps have on iphone? (including stock apps)

have 58 apps in total.
 

i'm not sure if count under settings > general > includes stock apps, either way: 117

edit: due extreme boredom, found out count not include stock apps, making actual total 138

unable to compile C program with getline() using gcc


hello, trying run c program using getline() , receiving following error message:

the program simple possible:

my firewall(cisco asa 5505) unable dynamic dns towards zoneedit. there way use atv2 this?

can issue command manually update dns record run cron job regularly. can launchd this?

command need run is:

i know capacity shouldn't have battery life, i've read some people have battery problems, , some people don't.

maybe, then, build of batches of iphones ended battery problems, while others didn't?

PC World


i met friend thinking of buying new ipad visited branch of pc world in kensington, london. salesman came on showing retina display. told us, "the difference between new 1 , ipad 2 1 has super amoled screen, 10x faster , in month can run on 4g network". unsurprisingly left hovered on pressing sale...funny eh? it's amazing people say....
 

that salesperson said has amoled , 10x faster!? looks have homework better.. :rolleyes:

Five iPads later, I think I give up.


i'll try keep short possible. i'm prepared down votes.

first ipad seemed ok part 32gb , wanted 64gb.

64gb exchanged had dead pixel , bad backlight bleed, exchanged that.

third ipad had pink/green tint issue. (week 7 build)

fourth ipad had same pink/green tint issue light bleeding edge of lcd. battery didn't want charge half time. (week 2 build)

now, fifth ipad has scratch on pink/green tint issue. i'm convinced plagued it. (week 8 build)

i'm torn on do. love new ipad can't justify paying hundreds has build quality issues.

not mention employees lately have been unpleasant deal with. it's if i'm inconveniencing them wanting purchase product. feel apple died steve jobs.

on years, i've owned more apple notebooks can count on both hands, every iphone since first, ipads, cinema displays other apple products. i've never experienced this.

do, exchange ipad or wait couple of months see if things change?

Upgrade 27" Imac SSD Mid Late 2009 without removing Optical


hey first post, title pretty says question is. possible add ssd late 09 imac 27 (i5 2.66) without removing optical drive? want have stock 1tb , ssd without removing optical - know possible on new 27 imac's, possible on late 09 27?
