Can i buy an iphone and use it without ever connecting it to a computer?

i want buy iphone 4s week. issue is, don't want hook pc right now. want wait until can buy macbook next month hook up. work? still want download apps , stuff through app store on phone. how work when getting macbook , hooking up? apps sync macbook or erased when it's connected? thought syncing worked computer phone, not phone computer?

 

yes, work. have had 4s on 2 months , not once have hooked mba.
