2010 iMac + 2011 MBA = Confusion

i'm going keep short , sweet, don't want waste one's time.

have 2010 mid-imac (has minidisplayport port) , got mid-2011 mba (has thunderbolt port), , reached confusion .

if check out this video, can tell, if imac thunderbolt, able use monitor. since it's mdp, cannot.

there anyway can connect macbook air imac, being able use imac monitor?

if so, wire need, connect two?

i imagine use mba's thunderbolt port mini display port. if bought 2 mini display port > vga adapters , used vga cable connect two.
