PowerPC G5 Video Playback

hello. long time reader, first time poster.

have powerpc g5 running @ 2.1ghz 2.5 gb ddr2.

question increasing speed of old system, know daft question hear me out. can play 720p not all. im looking play 720p mkv files highres television shows off tpb [through vlc]. playback slightest bit slow. slightest bit, not pixel-ly, hangs on every other frame fraction of second long. im pretty sure if had 2.11ghz smooth. im not running other programs while trying smoother playback, closed peerguardian 5%. im not overly technical can follow instructive tips given.

im not looking costly upgrades or add-ons, more tips improve playback touch. maybe vlc settings or better player mkv files [which available new 720p television. im not looking play bluray rips on brrips, small boost mkv files , couple of chunkier avi/mp4..etc.
