Does Findmymac work if the thief formats my hard drive?

i had macbook pro stolen me , i'm scared thief swap hard drives or format mine , wont able track it.
if format or swap can still track it? should do!?!?
, how can increase chances of getting back?

 

unfortunately not... when hdd wiped software wiped.

thing can submit police report , hope recover chance.

i've read people asking apple put in system stolen detailing serial proof of purchase i'm not 100% sure.
