hey folks; i'm running new imac (about year old) updated os x lion. second time now, sound has gone awol; have followed instructions elsewhere on forums fiddling in audio out jack toothpick, plugging headphones in , and out repeatedly, , it's not working.
red light in jack on, , settings stuck on "optical digital-out port."
can't change anything. i've repaired permissions, restarted, fiddled, , i'm getting really, frustrated. see might switch in there, don't know way it's supposed go; pushing @ makes sink in button, don't want try , force , break permanently.
"stick toothpick in , fiddle hour" incredibly unhelpful, i've been doing that, , it's not working. me should seeing, how should moving said toothpick around, switch should doing?
if have to, can take stupid thing apple store, i'd really, avoid if possible. it's literally 30 min drive.
i'm afraid looks micro switch....only trip apple going fix it:
