HELP!!! iPhone 3G issues

first, let me share background info: iphone 3g running ios 4.2.1, macbook pro running osx 10.7.2, itunes 10.5.3

approximately 2 days ago, first received error message in itunes when trying sync -- "itunes cannot sync apps iphone “<insert phone's name>” because apps installed on iphone not determined."

had downloaded few apps , following instructions found around web, reset phone , laptop several times , deleted recent apps before resetting them both again... no luck...

last night, apps start boot , automatically close themselves... now, (i haven't tried fix issue) small number of non-apple native apps work majority still fail while trying load...

today, phone keypad doesn't work... can dial contact, phone number in e-mail or webpage; and, can receive calls -- cannot manually dial phone number...

relegating myself being apple's less subtle insistence upgrade 4s, love few more months use out of phone until 5 arrives...
