Connect 15" MBP to 24" TV

first, i'd know if doing result in poor resolution or general bad looking displays. i'd looking connect 15" mbp thunderbolt tv in dorm room. i'd buy new tv, between 18" , 24" or biggest fit desk. i'd place mbp on pullout shelf directly below tv. let me know if feasible, , if is, type of connection (hdmi, dvi, component, etc.) provide highest quality display?
