i'm still using 3gs, after 2 years battery just wasn't holding charge used to. last 2 months, had been shutting off abruptly @ 30% battery power or more. lately had been shutting off multiple times starting @ 50% mark. becoming unreliable had serviced.
because battery built-in, apple offers battery replacement service. $80, ship phone in service , battery replaced , it's shipped you. according information, service can arranged apple store.
went local store morning arrange battery replacement. didn't want ship phone off , without week, hoping bringing in might able swap out instead. @ first genius said $150 out-of-warranty replacement because wasn't familiar battery replacement service. asked it, however, , brought page went consult manager.
when returned, set battery replacement. pleasant surprise, plan right off bat swap mine out replacement unit. i'm pretty happy experience. not have new battery, since it's refurbished doesn't show wear of old one. screen brighter better color , buttons depress more surely (basically qa things luck-of-the-draw when getting new iphone). essentially, after 2 years of use, got like-new phone $80.
thought i'd share people aware of service, way can more use out of old phones , maybe lucky new unit did.
