Apple Wins German Injunction Against Motorola Over "Swipe to Unlock" Patents

apple has won significant victory in wide array of ongoing patent lawsuits. german court has ruled number of motorola mobility products infringe on apple's european slide-to-unlock patent, ep1964022. ruling permanent -- appealable -- injunction apple can enforce today if willing post large bond against motorola's appeal.

the court evaluated 3 different embodiments. apple won on 2 motorola's smartphones implement. did not prevail on third one, xoom tablet uses. implementation similar have on samsung galaxy note: user has make swiping gesture inside of circle outside. requires relatively large screen work well, it's not intuitive. (i'm happy galaxy note user, has shortcomings , slide-to-unlock circle 1 of them.)

mueller believes motorola unlikely win on appeal. if injunction stands, user experience owners of motorola products might little bit poorer -- apple wants.
