gpu options for mac pro 3,1?

i searched, apologize if post redundant.

have 2008 mac pro undergoing it's 2nd gpu failure, , apple refuses replace because forgot renew applecare , apparently it's my responsibility their gpu failed again.

anyway, realize need buy new gpu, have slight problem paying ~$350 apple wants "new" (5 year old) 8800gt. is there cheaper gpu can buy work in computer?

also, see flashed cards selling ~$180 on ebay, these work? there other options have? i'm broke college student $1.78 bank account have no restrictions on card, long has dvi-d.

appreciated, haven't kept mac pro news on years clueless best course of action is. i'm pretty sure isn't paying apple $350 gpu fail in year or two. again.

official apple cards, gt120 cheapest aware of @ $130. best deal 5770 @ $200.

flashed cards ebay should work part, not 100% compatible , may have issues or after future os updates.

absolute cheapest solution bake 8800gt in hopes fixed. i'm not joking.
