Help with DVD Burning?

here's deal:

-80 odd minutes of footage shot on canon t3i
-exported quicktime movie (h.264)
-came out 900 mb

-i try burn dvd; tells me take 8+ hours

-i try compressing .mov mp4; made bigger

can compress make smaller file size , more manageable burn dvd? need burn bunch.

in advance reading/ helping.
