NAS for OSX Lion


hi guys,

own macpower pleiades gigalan nas used work snow leopard. after upgrading osx lion realised can no longer connect it. wont show on finder side bar anymore due change in protocol. unfortunately macpower not providing firmware update this.

looking @ buying new nas , have looked @ snyology ds212j. question 1 work osx lion?

requirement basic want:
1. able connect via osx lion through finder side bar (i used use smb)
2. possibly have timemachine

 

i have ds211 works lion, ds212j should not have issues. make sure you're using latest firmware update.

you know when, on startup, hold command-option , startup manager
pops up, , can choose volume boot (like external drive)? well, wondering if there equivalent windows, , if so, how it?

 

windows has boot loader, can accessed going run , typing msconfig , believe boot.ini tab.

i'm not positive on one, program senuti may allow connect ipad , extract content outside of itunes. know people music off ios devices, hope work same on ipad video content.

Snow Leopard email problem

New iPad - why no MagSafe?


since battery capacity similar or in cases larger 1 in macbooks - why not use more powerful chargers , magsafe connector?

imagine charging macbook pro tiny dock connector, practically charge when shut off. otherwise keep discharging or in best scenario - keep @ same battery level. nobody buy kind of laptop. nobody suggest - ipad - "hey, charge overnight!".

after introduction of wireless sync obsolete dock connector (still no usb 3.0?!) phased out. let's honest - magsafe ideal way charge portable unit. no force needed, snaps on. hell, made smartcover in same fashion. not charger...


again... there ipad 4. sorry... ipad - 2013.
 

magsafe power only. can't transfer data through it. not uses wifi sync.

, continuity i'm assuming.

Tiny scratch under the glass?


hey everyone. has ever seen little scratch (about 1mm) on inside of ipad screen? got new ipad , looking @ screen , noticed little sliver of line light reflects in different colors depending on angle (i'm not sure if proper way describe i'm seeing, looks same when looked @ section of screen has scratch in glass). tried using chamois clean thoroughly, scratch/visual doesn't disappear, , can't feel when running fingernail on area. don't know how have scratch on inside of glass, seems possible.

Mac Pro 1,1 x5160 -> x5355 for gaming? X5365?


i have spare stock mac pro 1,1 have sitting around gaming on occasion.

x5355 ( 4 core 2.66 ) have gone down in price, can 2 less $350 now.

question is: gaming, going see performance increase @ all?

i've read, answer no, wanted check.

meanwhile x5365 (4 core 3.0) still expensive ( $650 - 700 2 ). expect performance better 1 maybe not worth money.

have benchmarks or experience gaming these processors?
 

i interested in knowing since thinking making 5150 5355 swap might not worth gaming, video.

alternatively, 5150 -> 5160 might more interesting since procs quite cheap now.

i'm wanting purchase brand new macbook pro 15" friend, 1 got insurance claims. brand new , not opened.

entered serial number online check warranty status returns invalid, i'm assuming because havnt opened registered macbook yet? if case how find out purchase date of macbook rough idea of when warranty expire?

Jailbroken iphone 4 on 4.0.1 w/ 1.59.00 BB, need advice


i bought new phone , not using 1 anymore. need advice on should before selling it? thinking of not messing around installing 5.0.1 , risk of updating bb , unlock using ultrasn0w. noticed current version of ultrasn0w on cydia 1.2.5 , i've seen can still use unlock it. if phone do? suggestions appreciated have been out of loop while. thanks!
 

sell updated unjailbroken. don't dick. first time update it, re-lock phone, , have no idea why. won't know how re-jailbreak , won't have working phone. don't take advantage of dumb people make more money.

Resolved iPhone 4, stuck SIM card and how to get it out


so apparently apple has way tight tolerances tray holds sim card. ordinary micro-sim card 0.2mm thicker tray , when tried out, stuck. no matter did couldn't out.

did unscrew 2 small screws next dock connector. after slide of phone off pushing towards power switch , headphone jack. push bit on logic board near sim card tray. voila, sim card removed without serious disassembly.

if put sim it's stuck again keep small screwdriver handy if plan take out sim again. hope apple fixes iphone 5.
 

just curious. why did need remove sim card?

So I've just installed Adobe Illustrator CS5.1


this on trial period of course straight adobe website. have 64 bit system , dual core processor. question is, there reason why not show 64 program in activity monitor? there way can force run in 64 bit mode? download page indicated supports 64 architectures.

i'm on 10.7.3 , use magic mouse , mouse fine, right it's mouse pointer weighs 100lb. have move 10x further physically move inch on screen. have 2 magic mouse , both , not related battery voltage. screwed in .3

digital asset manager for web shop


i'm curious if out there has recommendation on digital asset management tool. currently, company uses free dam called resourcespace. it's clunky , not supported, , we're looking other options. have mix of windows , mac machines (mostly windows), needs work cross-platform.

Initial hang when launching a pages/numbers/keynote/textedit/preview document?


hi guys,

whenever launch pages/numbers/keynote/textedit/preview document, application hangs 2-4 seconds (with legendary rainbow wheel). cannot figure out why case.

thought font issue, restored fonts , used default ones. after, changed accounts, reinstalled operating systems , issue still remains on 27" imac. i've run onyx's maintenance service , still there.

assume issue hard disk or caching data hard disk? due excessive page fault or demand paging handling.

anyone?
 

initial hang when launching textedit

hang on opening textedit (with revolving rainbow 150 seconds) due textedit attempting access autosaved file on remote machine no longer accessible. (it did not hang airport off.)

'forget' autosaved file, move textedit autosave information trash:

/users/youruser/library/autosave information/com.apple.textedit.plist

i'm looking bluetooth mouse go computer (since don't having receiver taking space on computer's usb ports (it doesn't imo). want regular two-button mouse. wondering best bluetooth mouse there isn't magic mouse? need 3-4 buttons , have 100$ budget.
 

the magic mouse awesome mouse. not sure why wouldn't want it.

iTunes frozen


i uploading album earlier today , 1 of files corrupted , wouldn't upload , itunes seems stuck on determining gapless playback information 1 track. i've quit itunes numerous times every time reopen tries add track , gets stuck again. if hi-light track itunes freeze up. i've deleted file computer , i've deleted , reinstalled itunes problem still persists. it's not totally frozen it's lagging point of not working.

edit: fixed problem. thought had deleted song hard drive hidden under different artist name.
 

how delete , reinstall itunes on mac? windows question?

if mac consider resampling tracks aac using xld (assuming they're mp3 files).

Disillusioned/upset with my iMac


first of let me love hardware, issue osx lion, working myth far concerned.

having come many years of building pc's , using windows, have computing consulting business , have lot of experience operating systems , troubleshooting pc's. rare guy never had negative issues windows vista. need use windows visual web developer express , windows matrix design , maintain blogengine.net websites, there nothing remotely close on mac side this. there many things imac, 1 of them mail program, preview , more. advice , knowledge offered here.

since needed run windows contemplated installing bootcamp , vista learned lion not let me, needed windows 7. purchased vmfusion @ discount installed , copy of windows vista , programs needed.

have had reinstall lion 3 times working without issues, 2 of them without formatting , last time formatted , started over, of course meant cople more hours installing vmfusion , windows again, updates take lot of time.

here again, imac not wake morning , had shut down power switch , restart, screwed windows , have reinstall vmfusion, windows , programs again.

lion has been nightmare me, issues not waking up, not shutting down , freezing ready induce me maybe rid of imac. thinking of either buying windows 7 notebook run windows programs , not installing on imac, or buying copy of , running bootcamp, keep operating systems totally separate, enjoy switching , vmfusion know entail more issues in future.

advice out there me?
 

first not normal behaviour imac freezes, have got problem.

first step try , figure out causing problem. suggest try , clean install of mac os x again , install bootcamp , run few days see if problem occurs again. if maybe have hardware issue.

if problem not occur looks vmfusion maybe root cause. don't know vm fusion, have used parallels run windows on mac ever since in beta, , has never been problem me. parallels great can share desktop between os x , windows. parallels desktop mac, can seamlessly run both windows , mac os x lion applications side-by-side.

Any tweaks to allow skip 30 seconds forward/backward in audio and video?


are there tweaks allow skip forward/backward 30 seconds (or 60 seconds, etc) during audio or video?

downcast has ability swipe left/right across screen skip , it's amazing i'd love have feature video or audio playing using native iphone player...
 

anybody? :(

Dual Monitor Support


is possible run 2 monitors (dvi or vga) macbook air? i'll have macbook closed, want run 2 seperate monitors on old pc....

if can this, can please tell me adapters need buy?
 

you can run 1 thunderbolt/mini-displayport/vga/dvi monitor on macbook air. run additional ones, you'll need usb monitor, displaylink product.

FireWire to G4 iMac. Possible?

an't connect external drive in Windows


i accidentally checked connect mac remember setting external drive keep windows documents on , if eject osx, shut t down, open windows turn on drive cannot connect windows, how can osx not remember connect mac , drive reconnected windows though vmfusion. help.

got issue resolved, there setting in vmfusion reconnect it.

How to know File system Time Capsule


hello everybody,
searching around dont know how can find time capsule's filesystem, dont know if fat32, exfat, hfs+, ntfs.. can find it? disk utility?

using lion 10.7.2 , time capsule 1st generation 1tb.

can record , read files more big 4gb (for think not fat32) windows , mac.

Hard drive problem I think?


hi have mid 2010 mb pro 15inch lion installed. got new hard drive westerndigital 500gb scorpio blue same day lion released , sold stock drive. had no problems ever when had stock drive , snow leopard since upgrading computer becomes unresponsive , when listening music on itunes music cuts out if i'm pressing mute , unmute in quick succession. put friends macbook 13inch 2007 hard drive mac , played music , worked flawlessly. computer running super quick. couldn't believe own. put scorpio blue macbook , had no problems. after put scorpio macbook pro , once again problems. have reinstalled lion, fresh , time machine , still same. took mac apple , find no problems said hard drive might faulty. wasn't stock couldn't change it. i'm thinking hard drive not meant computers because i'm thinking of buying another. long post please can shed light on situation.
 

its been doing since day 1 or recently?

Beset by a weird thought


i had odd thought. refrigerator gurgling, fan blowing behind woodstove, , pickup outside thumping bass, sounds vaguely distant conversation happening.

so, can congenitally deaf person schizophrenic? how work?

want blame kind of thinking on poster notorious kind of thinking, not fair. sounds more might hear particular comedian,

i sad, had no shoes, until met man had no feet. asked him, "are using these?", picking shoes ...​

can source thought me, or demented evening?
 

i don't see why being deaf preclude 1 schizophrenia.

iPhone 4S echoing...


every call i'm on phone echoes every time. else have problem? i've switched speaker phone, phone headset, turned off phone, on, restored, wiped , started scratch, etc no avail.

ideas?
 

very tight cases can cause issue. life proofs water proof case (think fixed issue.

ive got bad connections before , here echo. i've experienced since when using dumb phones. rare , calling fixed problem.

aside maybe hardware issue....

Secure input quandry


i searching answer. several years have used textexpander auto log me several sites use both username , password… notably bank , facebook, pennytalk , few others. upgraded os x 10.7.3 , had issues safari needed apple's fix. happy got me , running again. problem describe this: using textexpander created snippet would, upon execution, insert username, tab password field, insert password , execute return key function taking me desired page.

during course of getting safari fixed, necessary me use browser, first chrome , firefox. after having used these browsers noticed textexpander execute point of entering 'return' function… (if hit 'return/enter' key manually works fine) never before required.

research has shown me both chrome , firefox notorious setting 'secure input' state don't turn off when leave application…

there way use either terminal or other means toggle state defeating snippet???

More iMessages/FaceTime Activation Issues


let me preface post stating i've spent 3 hours reading various forums issues people having imessages. called carrier, said couldn't me , should call apple. when called apple said since purchased iphone 4 close year ago able assist me unless paid $79 applecare. understand position, can't blame them.

here issue. i've been on stock phone , never jailbroken iphone. month ago friend told me imessages caller id showed email though had number caller id. went messages setting , noticed unusual... usually, have emails wanted link imessages number. however, number did not appear.

yesterday, thought i'd restore , set iphone new phone - didn't restore backup. hoping fix issue. now, can't seem activate imessages or facetime.

said, i've spent fair amount of time reading various forums on possible fixes , tried them all, no avail.

decided go down apple store see if fix issue , couldn't fix it. i'm hesitant pay $70 applecare technical support on phone now, after seeing employees @ apple store not able fix it.

have tips @ all?

can live without facetime , imessages, bugs hell out of me not knowing issue is.

in advance.
 

try disabling imessage. reboot phone. enable imessage

friend had problem adn seem work

smart test's results show disk 'about fail' , should backup data , replace it.

2011 iMac BTO w/ SSD - add second drive?


hello,

i've done fair bit of searching of information can find on adding hard drive 2011 imac relates replacing main drive. add secondary drive bootcamp purposes. loathe windows want play game isn't available (yet) mac... bootcamp best option. here's setup:

2011 3.4 ghz 27" imac bto
256g ssd (apple) main drive
no secondary drive

ordered way because store important things on networked linux server w/ raid. didn't envision needing more internal storage, or have ordered imac secondary drive installed. have need space. windows plus game require 40-ish gb of storage... , i'm not going carve out 20% of apple ssd purpose. /think/ i've read bto imacs ssd-only option can accommodate second drive easily. in - cables, bay, etc there, empty. i'm sure if possible, has done it... have seagate barracuda 7200 rpm 3.5" drive can install weekend if imac let me. questions these:

1.) there secondary bay w/ power , sata connection available in bto ssd-only 27" imac?
2.) if there is, bay 3.5" or 2.5"?
3.) there reason believe secondary drive addition cause high-speed fan issue many people have been freaking out about?
4.) better served firewire 800 external enclosure bootcamp purposes? sata better, speed-wise... external-enclosure's ease of installation justify degraded performance?

in advance!
 

bootcamp has restrictions on types of drives windows can boot from. of stems basic windows restrictions.

ifixit.com , other world computing both have information on adding hd imac. , @ least 1 of them sells suction cups installation.

ask @ apple store how cost. much, can't hurt ask.

Rapid battery decline after turn off/turn on


30 min. ago turned off mbp battery 98% charged. went work, turned on , it's 2% , charging. wtf happened? experienced same? :confused:
 

maybe battery dead. has happened before?

Lion or Snow Leopard on iMac from Amazon?


as continue shopping around ppc g5 replacement, took time @ 1 3 star reviews imacs sold through amazon. recent low rated reviews suggest machines being shipped snow leopard while other mac machines coming lion.

has ordered imac amazon? product listing says lion. did get? come snow leopard + upgrade disc?

understand it's $30 upgrade. that's still lower adder sales tax pay when buying form apple.

some people don't lion. if buy 1 snow leopard , buy upgrade, @ least have choice.

can't imagine mac sold amazon (as opposed being in amazon marketplace) isn't fresh stock, , have lion. sell lot of units.
