Problem with Pages '08 - Cannot see text!

i have had problem before , had re-install damn thing. typing, text set 'black' cannot see on page, when highlight has been written. surely i'm overlooking simple solution, cannot find option.

happen pages documents?
have tried creating new user account, see if happens there, well?
version of mac os x , version of pages running?

how maximise macrumors troubleshooting experience
