Are iPhone/iPad chargers interchangable?

the subject says all. know iphone charger charge ipad slower, don't know if ipad charger fry iphone.

plugged third-party usb cord work computer yesterday , ipad refused charge off of it, that's why i'm wondering...

 

i've used 10 watt ipad charger on both iphone 4 , ipod touch without problems. charges faster .
