iPhone in Italy

i'm taking stateside purchased iphone4s italy next month. couple things need into. service sprint. if want buy sim card on there emergency calls (in italy, not states), need in advance? recommended brands for?

know mac computer can plug european outlets 220 volts (whatever is) if have international plug adapter fit. mac staying home. instead, ipad , iphone. charging, can handle current too?

i'd love hear other helpful thoughts on this.
