wftv obtained dash camera video of violent police beating in melbourne. video shows officer attacking 66–year-old man wftv learned suffering dementia. in video, melbourne police officer derek middendorf shown giving albert flowers front kick stomach. middendorf punched flowers repeatedly while on ground. in report, middendorf said flowers walked towards him in aggressive manner @ fast pace , couldn't tell whether had knife in hands.

flowers' nephew, garrick flowers, said yelled @ officer stop , told him uncle has dementia. "he's 66 years old, had triple bypass, think he's killing him," said garrick flowers. flowers owns lawn care business, , said employee called police because said flowers pulled knife on him during fight money. when police arrived, family said flowers never pulled knife , issue had been resolved. "everything taken care of. if forgot, there take care of whatever," said garrick flowers. family said middendorf choking flowers, , video shows officer running on , tasing flowers in face. family said flowers hospitalized close month. officer turned off video , audio equipment before beating. department able extract video hard drive, not audio. disciplinary record officer received incident written reprimand turning off recording equipment. flowers charged battery on law enforcement officer. "it's ridiculous. video there no assault on law enforcement officer. asked speedy trial. want jury see video," attorney paul bross said. police chief said not comment on allegations of excessive force, because had not yet seen complaint, filed on friday.
