mac air, itunes, wifi, external HDD

hey, have itunes music saved external hard drive plugged router.

can access folders , play via 'readyshare' through wifi network.

wondering how can play them opening itunes , having detect external hard drive?
i've gone preferences , set library use

/volumes/usb_storage/itunes media

don't show in music tab of itunes.

ideas?
