i have western digital 1tb external hard drive , want set wireless harddrive. modem has usb plug in have plugged external hard drive into. want set time machine backup drive time capsule dont have $ @ moment , have hdd , modem. can make work? have make happen??

you used able set external hdd on airport extreme 2 years ago, apple removed functionality citing enabled mistake. can use time capsule or set mac os x server.
