i have mid 2009 macbook pro , purchased mini displayport hdmi. wanted watch movies on hdtv , unfortunately not audio output tv. tried using brother's new macbook pro , works fine displayport if change settings going system pref>sound>output> , selecting hdmi audio shown on list. how come 2009 macbook doesn't have option select hdmi audio ? best alternative output through tv using mini display port can watch movies through laptop tv? have cheap easy solution instead of having purchase mini displayport hdmi 5.1 channel digital audio?

support audio on hdmi wasn't added till later. if on of tv should have hdmi port allows audio on phono/3.5mm or optical digital of supported macbook optical being best!
