VNC access to Ubuntu box

systems - mac mini running lion server & ubuntu 11.10 desktop

trying manage headless install of ubuntu desktop via mac mini running lion server. odd thing can connect , see ubuntu desktop via chicken of vnc, jollyfastvnc, , realvnc can not appear make keyboard or mouse actions. mac screensharing launched finder hangs.

have 2 scenarios on ubuntu box have tried same results. used native ubuntu 'desktop sharing' application , have installed 'x11vnc server' application. both solutions , clients listed above on mac can see ubuntu screen , move mouse can not type or take action mouse. have temporary monitor on ubuntu desktop , ironically can see actions of mac mini mouse , keyboard. mac able control ubuntu box don't see action on mac screen, mouse moving around.

tried chicken of vnc on wife's mac air (lion) , experienced same results.

ideas of check/config?

 

i use teamviewer, works windows, mac os x, linux, ubuntu, iphone, ipad, etc. it's secure , quite simple set , use (no messing around ports), comes in handy if providing remote support aren't computer literate. can talk them through setup on end , connected them in less minute. it's free personal use.
