hi,
want know how can copy matched songs between macs own in house without having bounce them off icloud? i've uploaded icloud main imac want replicate itunes library on powerbook g4 wife uses (logged itunes me) , allow use songs without having download them again icloud. if try copying file imac powerbook, seems create new imatch entry , doesn't identify duplicate though same file downloaded icloud imac. note have upgrade imac's songs 256kbit deleting , downloading.
have download gigabytes of music on again, using substantial part of month's download quota when music exists in next room? surely not!
tips?
thanks,
craig.
i able accomplish this. can't easy or obvious though...and situation bit more complicated.
short version:
had copy itunes library.xml computer has upgraded library other computer, import it. requires upgraded files in same relative location - in case external drive moved 1 computer another.
long version:
original matched library on mini. wanted end upgraded 256mbps library. instead of deleting , downloading on mini, figured enable match on mba , have download - point itunes media folder external drive , once complete, copy upgraded songs on mini.
downloading icloud took 5 days complete (~20k songs). ran real problems. first off, realized (too late) while folder structure same - there difference in file names because in original library, songs mp3's whereas upgraded library .m4a (aac). if copied them via finder, folders have been replaced, itunes wouldn't have recognized of songs since looking mp3 files. sooooo....then figured copy itunes library files (.itl,.xml, artwork folder, etc.) mba mini, attach external drive open itunes , fire itunes option button pressed allow me point .itl file copied on mba. have done before when moving itunes libraries without issue no dice time. option key pressed, itunes opened, allowed me point copied on .itl file....but beach ball time - itunes never open, wasn't responding , had kill it. tried 3-4 times same result.
decided take @ "itunes library.xml" file copied mba. expected see pointing external drive path of songs since how set on mba , files on external drive (don't have enough room on air music library). strangely, each , every song, pointing default location: localhost/users/<username>/music/itunes/itunes media/music/. made (and still makes) no sense me....since again libary files air using , fine there. not mba not have enough space library, path doesn't exist there...nor there alias there pointing external drive. still puzzled on this.
tried import libary (file->library->import playlist) , chose itunes library.xml file. decided *uncheck* "copy files itunes media library when adding library" - in case didn't work. initially, got dreaded spinning beach ball....but worked. tried playing songs....so far good. noticed icloud status every song showed "error". still deciding whether cared since of songs upgraded 256mbps when resolved , shows "matched". so, except since didn't let itunes copy upgraded files library....it still using external drive. that's fixed changing itunes media location local drive , checking "copy files itunes...library....".
remember when said situation bit more complicated? well, that's start of it. first off, full library of songs on 46k songs....which makes me ineligible itunes match. initially, using itunes match upgrade songs <256mbps. , changing computers. , decided re-rip cd's songs <256mbps itunes match couldn't match. so, next have merge re-rips icloud upgraded songs. once done, have import rest of library (songs 256mbps or greater. of library upgraded , ...i done right? nope. have create 2nd library of <25k songs want in itunes match. guess worth when it's done.
