G4 eMac Speaker Balance Changes by Itself

lately i've been noticing emac's speaker balance change on own, seemingly @ random times. know problem be?

says try repairing disk permissions in disk utility , resetting pram&nvram.

select hard drive or macintosh hd volume/partition repair permissions? , need tiger installation disc this? risk losing when repair permissions?

 

repairing permissions won't balance problem. there's been long standing bug in os x causes speaker balance go out of whack when change volume fast pressing , holding volume keys.
