sorry...i moved proper forum...
have 13" macbook pro , imac running updated os x 10.7.2. hadn't burned cd rom on either couple of months , both play cds os won't recognize blank media or write it. os via disk utility recognizes cd won't eject it. have reboot eject. doesn't show longer when blank inserted.
blank doesn't show on desktop, in finder, or itunes. can listen cd or copy itunes if try burn blank error in itunes: device in use other application. have verified settings , tried of "hail mary" fixes posted on apple support , forum no positive result.

imac has identical entries. can't find process using device.
both systems worked flawlessly last time used drives. no configuration changes on either system. both current updates. 2 spontaneous failures unlikely hardware related.
becoming disillusioned apple quality , reliability.
