yes, may cause problems. rather delete core apps, you're better off moving user files external drive.

Expanding Time Capsule

i have had 1tb 2 years , needing more storage on it, not want buy 1 although 3tb lovely. have read can plug in usb hd tc.
sound simple enough, strict procedure , how time machine carry on after have done this.
wipe tc clean, how new available space integrate tc?

thanking not confident out ordinary.

if intending expand storage of internal drive of time capsule, not possible without physically opening , exchanging hard drive larger capacity drive.

when connect usb hdd time capsule, seen different hard drive entirely. can select target time machine backups have recreate backups. said, have had success copying sparsebundle file volume , continuing backup through time machine, may able copy current backup new drive , continue there (although i'm not entirely sure work flawlessly).

option keep old backups on internal drive , start fresh backup on usb hdd. you'll still able access old files manually mounting sparsebundle file old time capsule hard drive.

Applecare+ weirdness

so @ apple store other day purchasing camera kit new ipad , while there decided wanted add applecare+ before 30 days up. asked guy , says need see genius can inspect unit before can coverage, had no appointments left.

left...

today (about hour ago) decided call apple , see if can purchase coverage on phone without hastle. after 10 minute wait, gentleman took info , payment on phone , received applecare+ agreement in email 20 minutes later. ipad covered , have 1 less worry.

thought popped in head, if dishonest person , had cracked screen without coverage? call apple, coverage , make claim tomorrow, couldn't i? loop hole apple betting not many people do? also, if sell me applecare+ on phone sight unseen, why couldn't sell me in store without having see genius?

yeah, don't either. bought applecare + both ipads today, , did @ store verify serial numbers. no inspection whatsoever.

Tweak to alter/disable copy paste?

i design of copy paste, hate how , activated. constantly activate inadvertently, way more purposely. being able rest thumb on screen scroll slowly, think infrequently use copy paste rather compromise that.

there way decrease sensitivity/response time? if not, there third party copy/paste app , way deactivate stock one?

i want copy , paste not in form.

i think saurik took option away , automatically stored shsh blobs every device connected servers. shsh blobs useless a5 device doesn't matter anyways have looked @ top of home page in cydia see blobs saved device?

installing 5 icon dock messed up SB icon setup!

is supposed this? had icons on pages etc how wanted them, installed 5 icon dock... icons jumped different pages , different folders (come think of it, seems previous setup had awhile back... @ least folders) anyway, had put supposed again! pain in butt when have many apps installed! grrrr... else have issue 5 icon dock? other that, once fixed icon locations, works great 5.0.1

i'm deciding between incipio lexington, stm skinny, targus slim case, , zoogue cases new ipad.

case recommend?

i torn between stm , lexington. i'm 95% sure i'll go stm skinny because red , blue colors, , think polyester feel nice in hand.

won't consider zoogue because guy extremely annoying here when spamming product.

Mbp 13

so selling late 2007 imac weekend , looking mbp 13. everyday computer, used school, emulators(nes,snes , n64), every day tasks, little photo editing , logic(i'm not professional make own stuff) want 13 because 15 bulky me carry around campus day. have read supposed me revamp soon, maybe april, have read there no disc drive not big deal me, not having ethernet port not satisfy me @ all. if buy debating on 128 ssd or 500 hdd , either i5 or i7, know ssd faster not space(my itunes 90gbs) , cant afford next step up, brings me topic of optibay drives, if plan on doing should buy ssd install hdd optibay or vica versa? have read having ssd in optibay brings on sleep issues have heard having hhd in optibay not stable. have read new models might cheaper on ssd drives may reason wait.

if sell , wait out of personal computer(i can use sisters hp school) until new mbp come out understanding @ least until april, or should buy now.

bought first mbp second hand , lid has scratches , dings @ corner; expected. it's not huge deal if wanting replace of lid (ie, part running hinge including apple logo) how work involved , can part?

External Hard Drive failure (Solved)

hi,

have external hard drive ntfs won't mount appears in disk utility after time connected.
have paragon ntfs read it.

can't read on both mac , windows. (doesn't mount can't chkdsk)

have tried data rescue try fix gives me error:

solution

sort of solved it...
did because files not important.

still had option format drive disk utility, did , able use data rescue scan deleted files, witch didn't because take 400 hours (the drive slow fail)

recovering files.

hope helps important files.

i noticed if external enclosure cannot support required power drive, it'll cause same errors. have external hard drive require little bit more power 1 of enclosures can handle , every time plug in, gives error similar yours. however, if plug enclosure, works fine.

i had iphone 4 stolen while away, mobile me no ever in trying (obviously know it's not exclusively intended use still). way, apart obvious (insurance, passcode, mobile me(had of them apart insurance)) there other ways of 'protecting' phone in data sense? tomorrow i'm going part £600 new iphone (and p/m it'll cost insure it) (the phone i'm using atm increasing causing problems!) advice great, thanks.

iphone has feature can wipe phone after number of incorrect passcode attempts. know if set? way of ensuring data doesn't wrong hands if phone stolen.

make sure enable feature on new phone.

assuming did have passcode set up, it's new 'owner' of stolen iphone have set new, erasing of existing data - no point in worrying now.

Port forwarding and Airport Express

i have 2 homes both of want monitor y-cam. (internet ip camera).
first , running. camera talks wirelessly belkin router connected british telecom phone line. in order going had set port forwarding on belkin, , set dns service.

second more complicated. share router connected cable neighbour. router under neighbours control. have imac , apple airport express, plus wireless speakers , printer. connected wirelesly.

my question this. possible configure airport express can add y-cam here without needing set port forwarding on router (which in apartment directly below me?) there many reasons not want touch it, not least owner happy give me password , bandwidth, not happy me start reconfiguring it.

if answer 'yes', few pointers on how configure useful.

(i have find airport express hard understand. although have imac, speakers, printer, airport exp. working have never understood if imac still talking directly router or if airport exp. sitting between them hub devices.)

in anticipation.

if understand question (not sure do) no have use port forwarding. if these cams running on web need port forward them. either or setup form of internal ad-hoc network run them over.

Need a definitive answer about removing jailbreak

ok guys here's story, jail broke iphone using redsnow, seemed fine found had blank white icons appearing on springboard, , friend told me had not received of messages not being recieved , noticing not receiving messages, @ first thought problem imessage , tried searching net solutions, found people had reported apps interfering imessage, unable find exact problem, removed apps mentioned cause problem did not work. decided turn off imessage ensure messages not lost. day or 2 later same thing happened again time normal sms messages not being recieved or sent, amiss! decided remove jailbreak phone (both friend , jail broken) did lot of reading on net correct way leave no traces of jailbreak on phone , not end braking phone either, in end because of jumble of differing information decided restore in itunes new phone, assuming wipe phone clean allowing me start fresh, , here's real kicker after time spent researching found springboard , no doubt few other processes still running on phone!!! how know this? downloaded free app app store shows processes.

question this:
affect phone? , how hell can restore iphone has no trace of jailbreak files or processes?? answer must know surely?

want confirmed fact please, not reply opinion because can million of through google, thank taking time read long winded post

the upgrade in cpu power wont drastic (less c2d->sb i5's). people talking 10-15% increase in processing speeds, people alot of cpu intensive tasks such rendering/video encoding.

ivybridge bring intel hd 4000 graphics. sounds; better gpu performance.

dont expect big difference sandbridge made on c2d, still pretty significant. dont think average consumer dying ahold of though, unless having latest , greatest.

New MBP 13 inch vs 2006 Black Mac

i'm going updating soon, , i'm curious how of difference current mbp performance wise compared 2006 black mac? have 2 core duo now, 2 ghz processor, 4gb of ram. i'm running os x lion 10.7.3 without problems speak of.

going notice real difference in performance? current machine isn't bad, case getting cracked , battery starting crap out. there graphical differences? response superior slower chip?

should 2.4ghz dual-core
intel core i5, or.. 2.8ghz dual-core intel core i7 ?

plan on sticking 13 inch version. make more sense wait spring upgrade ivy bridge? anti-glare screen available then?

i'm using documents, (document creation pages, , stored document management), online news gathering, , light photography aperture. it's hub iphone 4s , ipods. have no use or need winduhz, , don't use games.

someone's going throw in later post obscene benchmark performance upgrade 2011/2012 (if wait) mbps , mb c2d, in real life performance tasks listed? meh, nothing astronomical. programs won't open faster, won't multi-task better, more cpu intensive tasks ripping dvd bit faster.

graphics performance - mediocre intel hd 3000 - should better gma 950 (i believe). can run plenty of games current gpu can't, if that's thing. if not, doesn't matter. either way, 13" not , not dedicated gpu, results won't amazing either.

heavily suggest waiting 2012 release. sounds have laptop works fine - has blemishes. long whatever battery issue have isn't drastically hindering usage.

, far know, there has never been high-res 13" offering , doubt there ever be. seems add-on tied 15" model due bigger real estate , dedicated gpu.

Ready to buy a MacBook Air, I think...

after plenty of thought , research have pretty narrowed down 2 choices, base 13.3" macbook air , base 13.3" macbook pro. have ruled out 11.6" air , larger pro models various reasons. computer used internet, email, music , occasional photoshop , lightroom editing (nothing major casual). think either system listed job more concerned more bang buck , more "future proof" if will. heavily leaning air thing concerns me not being able upgrade ram if want to. 4gb going enough 3-4 years? think will, wanted others opinions on this. also, 500gb hhd on pro nice, don't think need it. macbook have has 60gb hdd , doing fine in regards that.

know new models may coming mid/late year in need of upgrade. running original white intel core duo macbook. 4gb ram, 60gb hhd. can run photoshop , lightroom fine on computer on last leg. keyboard stops working time time , need reboot, files on hard drive renaming , occasionaly computer shuts off. not think last longer ready.

guys think? 13.3" base macbook air or 13.3" base macbook pro?

you genuinely can't go wrong either way. they're both great machines , serve well. have pro i'm in process of selling buy air. there time when needed power , expandability of pro line, these days prioritize mobility , convenience on power.

in case of 13" vs. 13", they'll give pretty comparable experience. i'm sure research has unearthed , many repeat here, they've each got subtle pros , cons. memory expandability legitimate issue down line. it's hard future software requirements bring, , imho 4gb on edge now.

in end, comes down personal preference, mentioned, can't go wrong these 2 excellent options.

my airport extreme appears on fritz, dropping internet regularly.

couple apple's update removes features , functions, means think want non apple replacement.

in past, i'd towards linksys router, there other manufacturers produce routers?

searched forum, of threads found in august , i'm not sure may have changed in terms of models , features since then.

given apple's adoption of 80211.ac (macrumor's news page) looking @ summer time or later these faster routers - of course current mac incapable of using new wireless standard when gets replaced...

the features , functions still there, new utility doesn't allow access them. can still download , keep old utility access features (they can both reside on same system per apple without issue). going download old utility keep around exact reason. enough complain apple add in next update (yeah, holding breath waiting that).

have heard linksys 4200 believe is.

First & last page buttons on the MR mobile site

use mr mobile site fair bit on iphone when i'm away home, , when using forums lack of first/last page buttons on threads makes navigating end of long threads impossible... (you have keep going next next next next next next end...) understand mobile site designed more simple desktop site, perhaps instead of having page numbers there frist page & last page buttons?

Hard Drive Click Noise

i have small issue driving me crazy hitachi travelstar 7k750. drive makes faint "click-click" noise consistently. it's if drive re-engaging itself, best way can describe it. cannot figure out causes/stops it; makes noise during processing , while computer idle. drive seems operate fine, have no symptoms other noise; , unfortunately loud enough incredibly obnoxious.

have contacted hitachi and, of course, claim "software" issue , won't replace drive. haven't found similar experiencing on internets.

Could the smartcover be causing invalid sim problem ?

i have had ipad 2 approx 6 months , had documented problem of 'invalid sim' or 'no sim installed'
after reading around, took along apple issued replacement. asked if it'was known problem , girl said was.

ok - great have new ipad setup.

talking friend other day , had problem in uk chatted , thing both have in common both use smartcover.

occurs me perhaps magnets affix cover device somehow damaging signal slot.
1 of magnets located directly on top of sim card.

don't think want have same problem in 6 months ( when warranty finished )

Need help getting out of recovery mode please

i have jailbroken iphone 4s. when jailbroke it, on firmware 5.0. downloaded update 5.1 today , forgot cant that. stuck "plug itunes" logo now. i've tried hold power button , home button lock screen hasnt worked. also, tried restoring completely, itunes says iphone isnt eligible im stuck.

Using redsn0w, receiving several jailbreak errors for iphone 4

i restored phone stock firmware after going through of this, , after following directions provided in thread, i'm still not able rejailbreak. i've downloaded ipsw gsm iphone 4 on 5.0.1, selected in redsn0w version 0.9.10b5c, put phone dfu mode (as noted recovery message in itunes), , redsn0w gives me 1 of following errors each time:

-usb communication problem
-no identifying data fetched
-unexpected error
-exploit failed

doing wrong?

in redsn0w extra's tab go select ipsw, manual select stock 5.01 ipsw downloaded , try jailbreak again

5.1b3: missing artwork

iphone 4s, ios 5.1 beta 3

i've never had missing album artwork, beta or not beta. beta well-behaved until decided sync against 1 of computers (which did "erase" of tunes on phone).

upon going computer sync with, random albums synced w/o artwork. fwiw tracks have art embedded. (i "manually manage" tunes, dragging , dropping library device.)

wondering if else on beta running art problems. yes, beta, isn't brand new ios issue, judging google.

i have artwork on beta 3...try unsyncing music , resyncing.

Random waking

before flamed, have searched forums here , @ apple support , cannot find answer. gg studios, links have in couple of other posts related waking, weren't helpful (one broken link , other didn't answer question).

updated 10.7.3 (via software update) couple of days ago, , have noticed imac (2010, 2.7 i7, 12g) randomly wake after putting sleep using command alt eject. not have nas, or airport devices. attached home network via lan cable. have apple wireless keyboard , wireless mighty mouse. have trackpad, turned off. have checked various settings can think of, appears configured prevent waking (i.e. wake network access unchecked, wifi off) have configured allow bluetooth mouse/keyboard wake imac.

noticed yesterday when woke, imac on. last night put sleep, , noticed 15 minutes later, had woke. got up, checked settings, , put sleep. noticed 10 minutes later had again woke. turned off until morning. have no clue whats going on.

in advance.

we have 2 2008 imacs.
1 sleeps happily.
other keeps waking - can't work out why.

Problem with Infolock not recognizing "do not wake" on email

when set infolock not wake on email, wakes phone anyway. knowing waking phone battery draw, concerns me. can check settings under "plugins", "mail" , tell me have set phone doesn't turn on every time new email?

hmmm, have similar problem 4s jailbreak required connect itunes , restore it. however, read iphone 4s cannot restored @ time. understanding correct?

Resolved Lost all my language options

i have apple wireless keyboard , mac pro computer 5 or 6 years old,
keyboard set either british english or spanish, use american english can use american (number symbol) musical sharp sign when need it.
needed 4 days ago , switched keyboard language english, when came switch british english language options had disappeared.
stuck keyboard layout has no (at) sign , many other signs have altered example Ç(russian) ¿(spanish) Ñ(spanish) etc, may still english keyboard have searched in vain (at) sign means can,t (typical changed key apostrophe) type e-mail address¡ (upside down exclamation mark)
have googled problem , have inkings might have me running windows on mac using vmware fusion. can confirm or give me clue how old keyboard layout back.

lost language options solved!

hi guys

let know have stumbled across answer above problem, 30 minutes after coming here help!
anyhow, here did.

go 'system preferences'/keyboard.

see if there tick in "show keyboard character viewer in menu bar"

if there tick, take out , see if normal language flag appears in menu bar.

if there isn't tick, put 1 in , check menu bar again.

1 of these operations should solve problem, in case there no tick in box there black , white display in menu bar there had been union jack (british flag) still can't figure how black , white display not considered keyboard character viewer, in other words thought b/w display character viewer, since had not taken tick out f box myself.
