Update not showing up

the released java update showed without problem on macbook air (2011, lion).
os x lion on imac (2011) didn't find it.
ran automatic update @ least 3 or 4 times without success.
retrieved update manually , installed - 0 problems.

wondering, has never happened before.
did here every have problem of updates not showing automatically?
shouldn't computer dependent, right?
same lion in same version on different machines...
