Macbook, external display, and icon sizes

so know it's pretty easy change size of desktop icons on osx. however, wondering if knows way link preference display settings? have macbook pro running lion, , when i'm @ work plug external monitor. @ end of day, unplug , take home use laptop. problem external monitor considerably larger 13" mbp screen, helpful have icons set size when external monitor in use , different size once unplugged. there third-party app can this?

might possible know can set different wallpaper on external internal display , seems remember wallpaper use when plugged external , use when unplug. intersting question ill looking fo answer
