1. install ibooks author inside lion vm or on second mac uses lion os.
note: can install ibooks author v1.0 on mac os x 10.7.1, not run on version (19. jan. 2012).
additional note: app store on 10.6.8 , 10.7.1 says requires 10.7.2.

2. on source machine/vm compress "ibooks author.app" via terminal:

ditto -c -k --rsrc --extattr --qtn --acl --preservehfscompression --sequesterrsrc --zlibcompressionlevel 1 /applications/ibooks\ author.app/ ~/desktop/ibooks\ author.zip

click expand...

(destination desktop)

3. copy .zip archive mac os x 10.6.8 machine (on startup disk). .zip file path should "/ibooks author.zip". decompress archive via terminal:

ditto -x -k --rsrc --extattr --qtn --acl --preservehfscompression /ibooks\ author.zip /applications/ibooks\ author.app/

click expand...

you have "ibooks author.app" in "applications" folder on mac os x 10.6.8 machine.

4. edit .plist file via terminal:

defaults write /applications/ibooks\ author.app/contents/info "lsminimumsystemversion" '10.6.0'

click expand...

5. ready! can use ibooks author v1.0 on mac os x 10.6.8 snow leopard!

a method without terminal

tried method outlined here , reason beyond luddite comprehension of software did not work me. also, perhaps other users (just i) more comfortable cut&past action in finder, rather terminal.

now, please forgive me if repost wrote in thread (and yes, reuse sorry pun), think thread more befitting gather workarounds:

may surprise learn leopard can indeed change shorts...



means can mask system tell app store running 10.7.2 allows install app (works other things too), restoring system settings original state , telling app accept running on sl, again quick edit of file. far seems work out fine on system, maybe indication apple indeed wants incentivize upgrade means of artificial barrier on other hand can circumvented. make of will.

anyway, getting around barrier not news on macrumors, found link here in first place:

fiddled around instructions , found system settings differ (maybe used admin account in link above?) process me slight variation. learned messing camouflage , getting shut out app detecting meddling can remedied trashing app , starting process anew.

doing way took me 4 minutes, download included, if desperately want piece of action may want give sneakaround try.
