folks,

new mac family i'm considering waiting until refresh of 2012 macbook air. unfortunately, i'll need buy 1 middle of june trip in taking. want use download hundreds of photos i'll take on vacation. wait longer , use netbook, that's painful experience least. how much, if any, expect spec bump on new air, , come out in time mid-june need. readings, think not , i'll stuck 2011 model. i'm considering refurb unit save $$$.

 

if you'll need computer store photos on trip, don't see why can't use netbook , wait refresh? think you'll filled immediate regret once come trip , refresh hits. besides, you'll busy enjoying trip have fun macbook air use netbook.

Time Zone Problems with NSDate+InternetTime Class

i'm using class of nsdate+internettime parsing xmls calendars, blogs, etc. in central time zone , when view tableview showing each rss item, time listed correct. however, if user in est shows hour later, , earlier times mountain , pacific time zones. ideas why may be? code parsing date is:

I just ordered the early 2011 Macbook pro

do need 3rd party spyware/virus scanner?


i've been using windows since touched computer in 1996: , i've had share of viruses/spyware.

literally 10 minutes ago got trojan (and didn't download anything, happen on mac???) virus scanner auto detected!

 

currently there zero viruses affecting mac os x in public circulation, there other kinds of malware existing, can infect mac.
long don't install software unknown , untrusted sources, safe, malware needs administrative permissions run successfully, means, need install malware yourself, can't install (one of reasons, why mac os x virus hasn't appeared yet).

"this not test user account" error

hi, got new ipad new , sealed in box. entered app store , tried downloading hunger games app , error stated in title popped out , couldn't download app. problem solved exiting account , entering again. in addition sent me error asking me create account in sandbox environment. read such errors pop out on jailbroken devices. mine brand new in wrap , sealed , didn't jailbreak it. don't know if true fact error. anyway should worry it? , what's origin of such error , did experienced before? thank you!

 

if see more errors this, take screenshots (push both buttons simultaneously) , take in apple. since apparently new, if want wipe instead of replace, point out within return period , new one.

call me paranoid, don't trust wiping remove odd modifications. old trick (before present in ios) iphone show battery %. no idea why, little (non jailbreak) hack survive full wipe of os.

Air or iMac Setup?

when new notebooks , imacs come out, i'm going need decide setup want get. i'm trying decide between following options:

1) new imac w/ 2tb hard drive , backup 2tb thunderbolt hard drive
2) new macbook air w/ apple thunderbolt display, 2tb thunderbolt hd, , backup 2tb thunderbolt hd

estimate air setup cost $300-400 more.
gain flexibility of taking air other locations, travelig, etc.
lose processor speed. how much?
gain os hd speed. (the os on internal flash drive, right?)

looking thoughts , opinions.

 

you'd lose superdrive , usb ports, ability upgrade ram. if you're okay that, if need portability, , don't mind spending cash, sounds fine setup me.

on desktop have disk image containing files exist event in imovie. if delete disk image, delete event in imovie?

try unmounting disk image it's no longer sitting on desktop. option click , pick eject. disk image no longer readable @ point , if imovie can still open original event somewhere else yes can safely find disk image (.dmg) file , delete without losing anything.

i'm curious how wound in disk image file in first place. did create disk image yourself? imovie files wind in movies folder in home folder 1 wind sitting on desktop implies did there.

have moved imovie files external hard drive since waste space.

Reluctantly returned my new Smart Cover :/

i really had have smart cover go new ipad. after bit of reading on web decided return it. here's why people not aware of problems:

1) metal hinge of smart cover can mark aluminium casing of ipad on time.

2) magnets can cause black spots appear on metal hinge , aluminium casing of ipad, these not come off. in fact 1 appeared on magnet part of hinge after 2 days of use.

3) soft microfibre lining of smart cover leaves permanent lines down screen, can wiped away @ first after prolonged use visible when screen off.

newbie macrumores form. got new "new ipad" , noticed heats panel far more ipad 2. hope heating issue not cause problem cpu, graphic performance, memories, , networking compornents. (ifixit showed increased size of battery may causing it.)

My new iPad...slow to respond

having gotten new ipad 3rd gen in mail, noticed right away has lag in activating apps. start , there's lag. else noticing this? maybe firmware problem? used native pages , takes while respond finger typing...voice entry slow it's new , expect takes few seconds process.

Stream purchased movies to iPad?

i bought first movie via itunes using imac. "tin tin" in hd , movie downloaded fine computer. able go on apple tv2 , stream under "purchased" tab. however, wondering if there way stream on ipad?

can find movie under "purchased" on ipad , shows icloud icon however, it's large file (almost 4gb) , i'd prefer stream can on apple tv. not possible on ipad?

 

i'm suspecting asking question because option icloud gives "download"?

icloud not offer streaming services ios devices. option download , play.

i've seen recent articles suggesting apple working towards movie streaming ios devices, not there yet.

stick new one..as said, cl can sketchy , knows kind of condition it's in. because looks on outside when it, knows shape on inside. don't know happen once start playing around it.

besides benefits of retina display , other amenities on new ipad, you'll have peace of mind bought apple , bought reputable source in case have problems

my new mac came ilife 11 pre-installed , in mac app store purchases section says iphoto, imovie , garageband not installed (install button clickable). when click it says "iphoto installed on computer. choose software update apple menu check available updates". how make install button grey out rest of installed apps?

these applications not 'grey out' because not purchased mac app store. pre-loaded on computer. mac app store has no way of knowing (to knowledge) ilife '11 (or iwork '09) applications installed until try install them mac app store. it's not apple checks drive installed applications.

believe read somewhere in os x mountain lion ilife , iwork applications tied itunes store account, clearing pre-loaded vs. mac app store purchase confusion. how don't know, maybe software update tie iwork , ilife apps mac app store?

Definite 4S battery improvement for ME on 5.1

last night upgraded phone 5.1 5.0.1.

let charge 2 hours 18% 100%.

unplugged phone , left in standby mode 11pm 7am.

checked phone , lost 2% in 8 hours standby mode. (98%)


it's 9am, i've done few menial tasks phone (checked e-mails, checked facebook app, checked twitter app) , it's 96% charge.



i'd anywhere between 89% , 91% now, rather massive improvement me.

so, altogether, phone lost 4% charge in 10 hours of standby mode , minor app usage.

(i know battery issues hit-or-miss people. never had real issue begin with, 5.1 makes 4s more efficient before.)


i'll ramp usage afternoon , report findings.

web surfing, undocked music player , other stuff , let know how goes.

1 - it's possible use apple tv on imac, or has used tv, only?!

2 - heard possible plug , play xbox/play3/whatever on imac, that, need kind of adapter, or hardware.

atlona has 27" imacs mini displayport , working on thunderbolt version, their current converter not work thunderbolt.
no need open imac, since there no product needs, no need buy it.

use product blackmagic intensity shuttle thunderbolt or intensity extreme capture hdmi signals on new imac.

MBP Display Issue - help please

i searched problem, haven't been able find anything...

mbp (now daughter's) developed display issue few months ago black pixels red , there light blue artifacts on screen. have attached couple of photos show talking about. if connect remotely or use external display, not there - looks perfect. late 2006 core duo running last version of snow leopard. upgraded hdd sdd couple of years ago, still has great performance, daughter, hoping laptop display working correctly. if logic board has replaced, might new mba or similar... last checked, repair $800+ input.

- smc reset
- pram reset
- resetting display?

quickest way reset display use following key combination:
1. press control - shift - eject.
2. after display goes sleep, wake pressing key on keyboard.

this sign it's not logic board. guess corrupted display or display cable. happen through pressure on lid or shock. better diagnosis need take macbook workshop can check known-good display. new display should cheaper logic board though.

Airport Base Station / XBOX 5ghz

hi all,

home theater looked best place put thread. i've got latest model airport base station, , new model xbox 360 built-in wireless. have separate 5ghz n network on base station configured 360 used able connect no problem. won't. connects 2.4ghz network set up. have other devices still connected 5ghz no problem. (last week) updated firmware on base station, didn't notice connection change on xbox till weekend. i've rebooted base station no avail.

ideas? body else experience similar.

Keyboard commands show up on desktop

a few months ago tried using virtual keyboard on imac. found not of shortcuts, standard ones, in photoshop not working. disabled it, tried downloading few trials of other keyboards, have since used clean mac remove downloaded ones, every time use of command keys show on desktop. never happened before , ever since have been having problems wacky things happening, when click on icon switch , forth between programs in dock, finder window comes or mail won’t show me email , selects multiples , on. wireless keyboard stopped working , went out , bought new 1 thinking might problem still happening , happening program open.......i have restart , getting on nerves. 1 have clue going on?

 

you have sticky keys enabled. go system preferences > universal access > keyboard > sticky keys.

btw, cleaner apps not needed, not clean mac:

Right Click and Drag not working

probably, month ago bottom right corner right click stopped working, @ same time ability click on, , able drag stopped working well. have been looking on since find solution idiotic problem, no avail.

there temporary fixes this, find annoying considering have been using computer years , years way. able 2 finger right click, , if turn on 'dragging' can drag way.

however, unable highlight anything, unable drag bookmarks browser, can't drag pictures, can't move windows, can't make them bigger, list goes on , on.

nothing special happened prior these things not working.

if have suggestions i'd appreciate them. beyond frustrating

running 10.5.8 macbook bought in 2009.

have restarted numerous times, of software date , tried whole disc utility thing, have folder /private/tmp.

more suggestions???

 

head genius bar mate , have them replace trackpad.

i reposting question in forum since looks jb'ing solution this.

dropped sprint , nexus s 4g at&t , iphone 4s. far loving iphone 1 thing miss android tight integration other apps. example, photo gallery able tap share button , share picture in facebook, skype, evernote, email, text messaging, etc. in contrast on iphone have go facebook , choose share picture app. issue apps don't allow upload picture, i.e. skype, unlike android app allows share phone or app.

there on iphone allows share more apps photos app? willing consider jailbreaking if adds functionality. thanks!

USB connexion does nothing at all

since upgrading itunes 10.6 (and 10.6.1) iphone nothing @ when connected usb cable (no matter usb port try on imac - running 10.7.3).

phone doesn't recognise it's plugged in either, , doesn't charge. no error messages in console, nothing show imac knows there's plugged usb port. worked fine last time did usb sync last month.

i've tried deleting applemobiledevice.kext file , reinstalling itunes, hasn't helped. suggestions?

(note: phone charges fine mains adaptor, either of usb cables - neither of them @ on imac.)

have checked see if other usb devices recognised correctly? example, usb mouse or keyboard?

have ipod available? - if connect this, itunes recognise , mount it?

if itunes/mac os recognises other devices, try resetting iphone.

Help convince friend to return 'Hot' iPad

so, i'd read heat issues , didn't worry it. own ipad never gets more warm in bottom left hand corner - when you've been talking on mobile while - nothing worry about, , 2 friends got 1 on launch day don't have problems either.

yesterday met 4th friend got 1 on launch day. played real racing 2 20 mins , when passed me put on charge dropped it. ridiculously hot. bottom of macbook pro after encoding video hour hot. , not in corner along entire surface of back.

if consumer reports had 1 can see fuss about. battery runs down @ shocking rate. 10% half hour of game playing. it's nothing i've ever experienced. , told him this.. brings me problem...

friend windows user , hates macs , apple. it's fair have friendly rivalry going on , when suggested there wrong ipad, laughed off , presumed trying 'get 1 on over him'???

figured if won't believe me. maybe few of guys comment below hot own ipad gets. maybe can convince him wrong.

 

run battery 0 recharge should fine then.

Help with iCloud restore!

hey,

i've been having quite shocking battery life since updating 5.1 today decided reset iphone , try fresh installation , restoration, attempting re install apps through icloud backup , keeps getting stuck on 1 app @ 30% through progress bar. can't hold finger on make 'wait' or remove phone. i've tried resetting phone again , using backup same problem continues.

ideas? can't losing of progress on apps, of have spent £20 on in game items lost

edit: hmmm, looks may have spoke fast. got 1 stuck now.

2nd edit: did hard reset (power , home buttons @ same time). once phone rebooted restore started left off , still progressing.

Songs not showing up under artist

recently, songs have been putting on itouch 4g has not been showing under artist section, show under album section , can search them on itouch. has had problem before , tips fix this??

 

sometimes songs, pirated music don't have inside artist , track name section (either in info mac, or properties windows) tracks inside ipod, not under artist because track doesn't know placed.

company gives large, heavy dell laptops use in office , when traveling. feasible use ipad work on occasional word docs or spreadsheets , connect company network via citrix?

 

i'm going test out first time weekend. past 4 years, macbook air has been travel machine of choice (and work tasks describe). weekend, i'll leave air @ home , see how ipad works. iwork decent in-a-pinch substitute basic word documents. have not used citrix, ipad should work other web browser.
