why 1080p (mp4) videos in iTunes not getting synced to my ipad?

i used xilisoft video converter mac convert mkv files mp4 using profile xbox hd (which gives me 1080 mp4 video) gets copied itunes fine , plays on new apple tv well.. wont copy new ipad ? doing wrong?

what filename extension on these files? .mp4 or .m4v or leaving them .mkv?
