macbook unibody ONLY boots into single user mode

i have macbook unibody 2009 model a1278, intel core 2 duo, 2gb ddr3, 150gb hd, running leopard. haven't had problem until now, , have no clue how/why happening. working fine, went start up, , can boot single user or verbose mode. i've tried putting disk in came it, apple logo , spinning wheel until restarts , same. , keep doing on , on if allow it. these same results when try booting safe mode, target disk mode, , open firmware. when boot holding d key, takes me apple hardware test returns no errors. when hold down opt during boot, show hd , install disk, when select either one, nothing happens. sits there. when attempt boot network server, never finds one. i'm @ loss. have macbook pro i5 can't put macbook target disk mode , wont see macbook pro if put target disk mode. can me?
