Help needed - GMail sent items missing in Apple Mail "Sent" mailbox!

i need solve problem i've identified in apple mail gmail account:

have pop-enabled gmail account in mail, imap functionality enabled through gmail's webmail settings (probably because access ipad).

however, notice local "sent" mailbox in mail contains 140 messages, if visit gmail's webmail page shows me have @ least 1200 "sent" messages.

must note advanced mailbox settings in mail not allow automatic deletion of sent items.

question is: how make sure not lose sent items gmail or other account matter (i.e., whatever sent remains in local "sent" mailbox in mail)? missing something?

have same problem, if send email gmail web dont see in apple mail client sent items, weird cause use mail client find data when dont have internet.
