let me start saying have searched internet , several forums have read conflicting info, , of year old or so. hence new post...
have windows pc running windows 7. have hard drive on network - networked media tank, hdx1000... knock-off of popcorn hour - , hard drive formatted ntfs. able use networked storage drive music photos docs, , pc "sees" z-drive.
thinking of getting mac - either mac mini or imac, haven't decided, leaning towards imac - anyway, want able put of files on pc want on mac (music, movies, photos, docs, etc) onto above mentioned networked drive, when mac, copy them networked drive mac (for better performance rather accessing them across network time). want use networked drive temporary storage transfer files 1 computer other.
posts seem os x lion can read ntfs not write them, others need additional software.
barely tech savvy enough myself into trouble, not out of it. , want make sure mac "play nice" network drive before dropping thousand bucks on , not being able smoothly stuff pc new mac. hook pc's drive new mac, ntfs have same problem.
i've read macs play nice fat32 drives out of box. don't suppose can convert drive ntfs fat 32 without reformatting , loosing data?
the format of network volume doesn't make difference.
you're not asking mac write ntfs, you're asking device hosts drive write ntfs.
you're fine.
