3g on but Won't Connect

i have original ipad running 5.1. turned on , signed month of 3g after not using 3g 6 months. at&t sent me email saying signed 30 , ipad says have 3g, nothing connects. instance safari says " cannot open page because not connected internet , not activate cellular dat network.

searched, search hates me , find answers every 3g question under sun except one.
