Lion: Unidentified background task using 100% CPU

i7 mac mini running 10.7.2. 8gb ram

have unidentified prices running sucking of single cpu core.

why this, , how stop it?

activity monitor registers system using 25% of available resources, no specific culprit listed.

in general see system using way more resources in lion in snow leopard. never bad.

have tried selecting processes in activity monitor instead of "my processes"?
