Mac Mini Sleep Issue


ok, posted little @ 1 time, think have more/better info now. have mac mini doing 2 strange things seem related monitor going sleep.

first, when open system preferences , go energy saver, set computer , display same time sleep, 5 minutes. after 5 minutes display turns off , message hp monitor says "display going sleep" goes black. same message comes saying "display going sleep" goes black again, keeps doing on , over.

if hit power button once put computer sleep mode, display goes off should , fine.

tried hooking display(hp 2311x) hdmi , minidisplayport dvi adapter , dvi cable, same results either way.

turned off "wake bluetooth" after reading having issue mouse kept waking there computer, didn't change anything. though, if let mac , display both go sleep on there own, the bt trackpad still turn on, making me think mac not sleeping. if hit power button put mac sleep, bt trackpad won't wake up.

monitor goes sleep when hooked different pc no problems.

second issue when wake things up, display has pink hue it, have put mac sleep , wake , pink hue gone. never if force sleep apple menu or using power button, when let go sleep on own.

sorry long post, can't figure out, , if problem mac, have exchange monday under return policy. go ahead , this, got 10% discount , have buy new 1 @ full price. if problem mac have no issue that, hate spend $60 , still have same problem.

OK to delete log files?


i have large ".log" files in /private/var/log folder.

kernel.log.1, example, on 2 gb.

i'd set hazel rule delete file in folder ends ".log".

problem want make sure none of these files cached mac os , "expected" there writing.

since found these .log files in directory starts "private", wanted make sure first.

other log directories small comparison.

so, ok remove files ".log" in file name in /private/var/log?

in advance.

yes, can delete logs.

best way be:
  • open terminal
  • type "sudo periodic daily weekly monthly"
  • type "sudo newsyslog -f"
  • you can safely delete logs ending in .1 (2,3,4,ect.), .bz2, .gz or .out (as no longer in use)

personal log folder in ~/library/logs can trash without worrying.

Hand Bouncing Ball Video Game


so have been trying find game played quite few years ago. pretty sure played on 1 of old apple laptops not 100% sure. remember floating hand in glove bounced , ran around on ball. there physics , couldn't do. life of me cannot remember name of game. remember name of game?

Back snap on case and drop protection


i have apple smart cover , belkin snap shield on of new ipad. love looks , low-profile but...

know of of cases claim drop protection? i've looked @ belkin, incipio, switcheasy, etc. , none of them claim drop protection (although switcheasy shockproof). have friend dropped , corner got bent in bit. i'm not looking miracles, protect low fall.
 

i have not seen snap on cases/shields protect against drops. these scratch protection.

i have applescript app opens terminal windows , completes commands. there anyway have badge icon appear on terminal icon when command completes?
 

i don't think can access application's dock tile (not anyway). os running? if can use applescriptobjc, badge can added own application's dock tile enough.

If the Ipad 3 had no retina?


i know there's 0 chance of imagine shock if never had retina , ipad 2 siri , hd facetime cameras , a5 processor.

ipad 2s? :p

don't think can handle industry , public disappointment when iphone 5 never appeared , iphone 4 little added on.

1 downside rumours though. looks new device ipad 2 yet ipad 1 got 1 cycle.
 

would quite shocking. i'd wonder lucky tablet getting display macrumors got , sent ifixit few weeks back.

HDD Not Spinning Down?


i installed wd scorpio blue 640gb 5400 rpm drive in macbook pro 2009 (13"). reason, drive platters not spinning down , keep going. made sure "put hard disks sleep" in energy saver checked, doesn't work. know contribute shorter hdd life span, how can fix this? thanks.
 

not shorter. apparently, have process that's accessing drive. launch activity monitor , change "my processes" @ top "all processes", click on cpu column heading once or twice, arrow points downward (highest values on top). see may consuming system resources.

i was given a power mac G5 DP, won't power on


i given power mac g5 dp (2ghz) has 8gb ram (factory, guess ... on sticker) , no hdds (donating party wanted them back, kept screws mounting). problem won't power on. make clicking breaker switch type noise , flash power light , turn off. fans move during 1 second on before turning right off. tried reset pmu pressing button under front fans unit unplugged. tried removing battery logic board , discharging board holding power button 15 seconds(with battery out , power unplugged). please me this? love working family have common computer use when ever instead of borrowing macbookpro. thank help.
 

sadly sounds power supply in g5 has gone bad:(. power button flash more once? , air deflector in way can make g5 not start well.:apple:

2 flashes, pause no memory (ram) installed
3 flashes, pause incompatible memory (ram) installed
4 flashes, pause no dimm banks detected

iStatPro v. iStatMenus...


what thoughts of how compare? using istatpro, , have been few years (thanks forum :) ). however, seems whoever made istatpro has died or has happened them in have not updated of stuff in years. running 10.7 , have istatpro has been pulled being widget sitting in actual homescreen (using break widget command or whatever...forgot how did it). ask istatpro , lion don't seem each other much. there other options? don't mind paying $16 istatmenu i'd hear people have both regarding how compare, or how others compare both. input appreciated. thanks

edit: realized 2 made same maker. feel idiot. thoughts still appreciated :p
 

i can tell istat menus works fantastic in lion , has new features not configurable same detail in istat pro. resides permanently in menu bar, , paying $16 have peace of mind @ glance 365 days year worth it.;)

have new (a month old) base model 15" mbp. cousin has 2009 top-of-the-line 17" mbp.

both of work same company , both required access our company's software through web portal. mbp creeps along while accessing information, while cousin's mbp can query information instantly. when try resize browser window, pin wheel little bit, while cousin's system smoothly , "on fly."

bottle neck i'm experiencing due system ram or gpu/video ram?

asked guys @ genius bar... friendly, of no informational help.

2.4 GB of "Other" on new iPhone 4?


i received new phone verizon, after mine broke. plug itunes, few apps on , no music. 2.4 gigs of other. this?
 

configuration data, app data, contact information, messages, emails(including downloaded attachments), list goes on. restore new , it'll shrink in size never go away fully.

is that possible install SL and lion at same time ? (multiple boot)


hi guys. working forex company. job need secure computer. @my main os (sl) visit kind of links , install kind of apps etc. first decided buy new macbook air 11" job , not open third party link/app on it. install google chrome (+vpn) , little snitch make imposible hacked , visit forex broker website on it.
don't wanna spend money if possible on own macbook (another problem don't macbook air have no lan port use internet). have snow leopard @ moment. possible install lion ? (when turn on macbook show me multiple boot options enter os)

ps:i encrypted hard disk pgp on sl
 

you dual boot partitioning hdd/ssd in macbook, though don't know, if possible encrypted hdd.

itunes issue on Windows XP


hi folks,

had reinstall xp on wife's laptop. made copy of itunes folder before did did not follow apple recommendation on how itunes - copied folder external usb drive. after reinstalling xp , itunes, copied itunes folder (from usb drive) should exist (user/music ...) itunes doesnt seem recognize it. thoughts? in advance.

Brightness is OFF in Final Cut


took raw video files. exported them in mpeg streamclip using apple intermediate codec

took final cut , video seemed darker original. exported h.264 apple intermediate codec , final file came out original brightness, etc.

h.264 , apple intermediate codec (aic) 2 different codecs, first delivery , second editing.

Connection between iTunes and iPad & iPhone drops after an hour...


i have 2011 15" macbook pro itunes installed , home sharing activated. ipad , iphone connect itunes hour , after connection drop (meaning idevices no longer communicate computer, wifi on devices still working fine).

i've tried tinker around , noted if turn off wifi on computer , reconnect wifi router, idevices connect once again computer. however, after hour, devices stop communicating laptop again. means can't home-share , can't wifi sync devices. also, have app on idevices called air media server connects laptop idevices , streams movies , stops functioning after hour of connectivity. thus, don't think it's itunes problem.

now, i'm thinking it's either problem macbook (maybe need mess connection settings?) or due router. router medialink n router - 2.4ghz 150 mbps 802.11n.

has else had problem before or know solutions? thanks!

Question about creating dual boot drives...


i had looked on message board , while there topics similar couldn't find 1 addressed question, apologize in advance repeated question.

i've used macs awhile, video/audio , never in stance messing os.

wanted create dual boot mac pro both drives mac os, wanted 1 side programs (avid) , other other programs (final cut pro) able update things without worrying compatibility issues.

whenever use disk utility on mac create disk image, whenever try put on drive installed run awhile , give me error.

i'm not sure if should use separate program , if do, create clone of drive same , uninstall program(s) not want on one?

if has thoughts or solution appreciate it. in advance.

Texts come late, due to JB?


where start?

i've had 4s since day 1 , i've never had problem until when have jailbroken. basically, can sitting there , few things can happen.

1. phone on desk, time goes , when pick phone , press home button check time, receive text(s). time 1 thing , timestamp of text around 5-10 minutes later wasn't notified? it's kind of when pressed button, service re-activated. that, makes me mad.

2. can sit there , not receive text, time goes , i'll receive 4-5 texts @ same time. sound play 1 after , different people, different timestamps came @ once? what?

here example of happened today, @ timestamps:

first , third message person same exact one, sent twice? 3:51 3:45? both in imessage don't it.

3. there plenty of times in conversation friends , reply , don't respond, later ask , didn't message. make them show me phones, , yeah...they didn't it. says on end sent.

now, love jailbreak death , don't want go without getting out of hand. same exact problem happened me when had iphone 4 jailbroken difference was using bitesms , few people , at&t rep said it's bitesms doing figured time around i'm going use standard messages app. can please give me idea on do?

My new iPhone 4s rattles? Is it normal?


i got verizon iphone 4s 16gb model in black yesterday, , noticed when set down rattles near camera lens. minor annoyance, wondering if there internal hardware damage , should replace it? doesn't seem have issues otherwise want make sure there won't problems down line. thanks!

Webcam


new apple after yrs of pc. ordered new mini had new, top of line hd monitor saved $600-700 not getting apple monitor, too. (really liked built-in monitor cam apple had couldn't justify cost.)

question: find add-on webcam have been reading many product reviews claim "apple-compatible" read ap-mini users either don't work @ or perform poorly. apparently, logitech (for mac) 1 of "worst" offenders, though of pc products rock.

have positive experiences finding or using add-on cam works decently on mini?

don't have personal experience, i've been looking around web cam mini well. "logitech hd pro webcam c910" keeps coming winner me.

on apple store, has negative reviews out weigh bad, @ least me. update once purchase , use it. (amazon has cheaper, fyi)

iPhone has lost all my calendars since switching to iCloud


hey there! hoping can give me idea of here. have begun syncing iphone calendar , imac calendar icloud, , of calendars native imac not available on phone. can see them (they syncing via itunes), cannot edit them, , none of calendars created there anymore, cannot create new events using them.

running lion, date on software, , making me sad , stressed out!

Absinthe not detecting iPhone?


hello,
know there other threads this, people including myself having problem absinthe on mac not detect a5 device. seems booting mac in safe mode fixes problem. did me. why that? have tried jailbreak on 7 other macs, none of in safe mode , worked, computer has in safe mode absinthe detect device.

theories?

 

do have passcode lock on phone? take off run jb program! mac has no problem seeing iphone

Warning for iphone 4s cdma users! No Service after sbsettings install


sorry if double post seems cdma 4s that's installing sbsettings , toggling 3g toggle losing service , cannot back. seem have luck resetting network settings , others not. did happen me , ended doing restore. didn't know try resetting network settings did not try it.

hope helps someone. if you've had experience please post if reset works without restore.
 

on verizon, same thing happened me after toggling 3g in sbsettings. waiting restore now...

Should I upgrade?


i know if update jail broken ipad1 4.3.3 5.0.1 lose layouts , cydia apps. spent lot of time setting layouts , don't want lose them. backup cydia apps , layouts springback , pkgbackup , refuse use itunes except when absolutely no other option exists. (ifunbox , transcopymgr)

have searched iclarified tutorial updating jailbreaks didn't find enough info determine if update distroy layouts. if has info allow update of jailbreak 5.0.1 without backing itunes , losing setups please respond advice.

an update remove jailbreak-related data. if update, lose of stuff. save themes , **** on desktop, , move them after update , re-jailbreak device.

Numbers on AirPlay - Confused


does know these numbers on airplay option on ios??

those mean device 2nd or 7th device on network use hostname. addition of number feature of bonjour networking airplay uses see other airplay devices. what's causing on network ghosts of own devices not clearing properly. when device reconnects network or gets new ip address, see these ghosts , renames not conflict ghost device. harmless, yet annoying.

AirPort Express for setting a PC wi-fi network?


this of newbie question, since have little experience networks, here goes:

have pc windows 7 , internet access through ethernet connection , nice little modem. create wi-fi network in home iphone. have successfuly created wi-fi network using linksys wireless router, i'm not fond of it; rather use router more reliable manufacturer.

question is, base airport express enough me create wi-fi network in home, or need use router , airport express? airport express work router pc using windows, use replace router have (and create new network), or work addendum router, meaning have keep linksys router?

Question about returns after 14 days - bad screen


so have question have returned new ipad due screen tint issues. of belief screen tint may go away after few days never did. try not pay attention 3 different people have used ipad , asked me why half of screen looks pink.

14 days up.

question is: if screen tint issue on ipad blatantly obvious -- qualify free warranty exchange @ apple store... or people exchanging ipads because did within first 14 days?

may end keeping not bother me much... ibooks used app on ipad , can notice screen tint issues...

replies.. said, may end keeping it.. nice know can replaced free within warranty if sick of looking @ half pink screen...

i've been trying find out awhile how play windows games on mid 2009 macbook. know parallels , boot camp don't have money buy windows os. not want run os other mac os x. have tried wine bottler , didn't work me.

downloading 1080p movies from iOS iTunes Store


i'm trying download hd movie when click purchase gives me option choose sd or hd. when download hd comes in @ 720p. there way make download in 1080p - bit in itunes on mac can select download 720p or 1080p in options?
 

you can change in itunes preferences pane under "store'. however, when older mac mini cannot play content on computer. can stream apple tv not play on mini or pc.

Lock Folder/Application on Iphone


hi, knows of application protects folder password? (or locks in other way secure it)
need protect "photos" folder.

thing apps "folder lock", "folders" etc., don't lock "photos" folder, rather ask move of photos new folder have created. makes uncomfortable use , creates additional problems.

in cydia there perfect app called "applocker" example. could'nt find similar in app store. , don't wanna jailbreak iphone
