Upgrading Purchased iTunes movies to 1080p

i've purchased 100 movies on itunes on years, , trying figure out how delete old 720p movie purchases , re-download 1080p version.

i've tried , failed doing half dozen movies far. know not movies on itunes store support re-downloading upgraded version of movie because not movies studios have signed-off on 'movies in cloud', , might problem.

let's take movie 'the incredibles' example... year or 2 ago, purchased movie on itunes store (it's 'protected mpeg-4 video file') , version on computer 1.6gb (853x354 res). lower hd version. 1080p version offered sale on itunes store , says it's 3.25gb file.

delete non-hd legacy download off machine, visit 'purchased movies' section of itunes store, , try re-downloading updated file, , starts downloading 1.6gb version of movie, not hd copy.

i've made sure itunes' preferences configured 'when downloading high-definition videos, prefer 1080p" set, it's still downloading smaller version of movie.

suggestions appreciated... thanks!

maybe maybe purchasing sd version , not hd version ?

sd version 1.6gb - not aware of free upgrade hd if purchase sd version.......
